  1. I don't like bumping old threads but just wanted to say a huge thanks to @Markfor doing this competition. Got the shirt today, really appreciate it. I think this is the first competition I've ever won in my life. Thanks again!

  4. As a staunch lefty but a pretty cynical pragmatist, I ****ing hate these people. I'm intending to leave Unite because of it, tbh, Mcluskey has always been a **** but his latest toys out the pram tantrum is just a step too far. I'd love it if we lived in some Scandi style utopia with a more naturally left leaning populace but at the end of the day, this is a Conservative country that largely elects Conservative governments. If you want to get in to power as a Labour leader you need to be electable first and foremost or all you're doing is damaging the cause and ensurin

  5. Guess I'm in this camp. Do I think I need to be careful, wash my hands and keep my distance from vulnerable people? Absolutely. Do I believe the current restrictions are disproportionate to the risk and may cause more harm than the virus itself? Totally. Do I believe that the government has made a mess of this and manipulates data to pursue an agenda? Yes. The problem is, the more they lurch from one farce to the next, the less faith I have that they have any control or any real plan to deal with it.

  7. Calling the PM 'Boris' is pandering to the phony brand he's built for himself. I didn't call his predecessors Theresa, David, Gordon and Tony so I won't call Johnson 'Boris.' He's not your mate down the pub, he's a politician. And a shit one to boot.

  8. I love how many of you still believe our governent & scientists are making a mess of this & put places like Germany up on a pedestal on how to manage, but, has anyone looked at what places like Germany, Belgium, France etc are doing right now? If you haven't its pretty much what the so called inept UK Gov are doing with bars, gyms, leisure centres all closing within localised areas with schools & Uni's open as normal, although shut now due to h/term. The German health minister has just said he is very concerned about the sharp rise in daily cases & stated in the main that t

  10. Personally I disagree completely on the notion that there is no middle ground. Plenty of folk out there what want to us be sensible with rules/restrictions whilst maintaining some form of an economy. Its just you’ll find they are not so vocal with it or their argument includes nuance. The wider point being that debate is increasingly viewed in extremes

  14. Why are you, and posters like you, taking the 42.5k number as gospel? Perhaps because it's convenient? Any case of a person dying with any Covid in their system is reported as a Covid death. This much has been proven. Looking at excess deaths is flawed as well because much of that is as, if not more, likely down to cancer cases not being caught early enough because of lockdown measures and general fear. In all actuality, a much smaller figure that nobody knows, is the true number of Covid deaths. 42.5k wouldn't be enough for me to justify shuttin

  17. I’m currently in the Canary Islands and it’s really sad to see the impact the virus has had on the local economy. There are very few tourists about, lots of restaurants are now closed and people’s livelihoods are being destroyed. Chatting to a waiter in a restaurant he cannot understand why our government has put the Canarias on the unsafe to travel list when the infection rate is far higher in the UK than on the islands, his thoughts were that the UK government wanted to keep people at home and their money within the UK. Its all really sad and the impact this is having on people’s liveli

You aren't a horrible bastard, nor is anyone else. Just driven by self-interest, just like most others with the same viewpoint. "Just because this thing kills a lot of people this other thing killing a lot of people is acceptable" isn't a superb argument tbh. And yes, that is what that sentence boils down to. Citation needed. The UK isn't the world and some other countries a

  30. There will be more than a few who haven't come across this illness. Fewer than 1 in 100 people have tested positive, and many of those who tested positive have barely come across the illness. After all, 17 people at Leyton Orient FC had it, 16 people at Sale RFU had it, and in both cases they didn't know they had it until everyone was tested. The problem is not just that coronavirus has caused deaths, and it's possible but unlikely that it will cause as many again. That's only part of the problem. The problem is also that the solution to coronavirus has caused deaths and othe

  40. After New York, Malaysia/Thailand and Turkey have all been cancelled this year, finally managed to touch down in another country. In Greece for 7 nights and despite the initial worry that we’d be tested for covid and potentially whisked off to a quarantine hotel to isolate, it has all worked out. Can finally chill out.

Undermines your credibility if you promote a concept that you can't even spell. Sorted! You should tell all those thousands of scientists worldwide who are wasting their money working on a vaccine - and are optimistic (with no guarantees) that one might be available by the spring. They'll be pleased to be put right by a better-informed chap like yourself. Could save them a lot of money when they halt all their
