What mobile phone should I go for?

So ive ruled out the 2018 samsungs cuz well im tired of samsung phones and im not a huge fan of their rounded edge screens.

I want a phone with a regular headphone jack but good camera so that rules out the pixels.

Looking for a phone that has ip67/68 ratings for dust/water etc. My kids have dropped my phone in water before so my s5 was safe.

Also want expandable storage.

Leaves phones like the g6 or lg v30 or sony xz1.

Admit that i love my wife's xperia z2 pics compared to my s5. Sure its not an edge to edge screen but that doesnt make me hard. The porn on any phone will  suffice for that lol.

Any personal experience with the above phones or any others meeting above criteria?

I eat apples not play with them.

My Huawei p9 is going pretty well, and i believe cheap for relativly high spec

I love my Sony Xperia X, had Sonys for years now and loved all of them. It's waterproof, takes great pictures, has a proper headphone jack and expandable memory.

I've recently got an iPhone 8 plus and it's a brilliant bit of kit. Beautifully made, gorgeous big screen, HD, fast as fook.

I had the Samsung s7 edge before and that was great too. But my new iPhone and iPad Pro just iCloud everything together. Pics, films, music etc just appear on both.

The Pixel 2 XL and One Plus 5t are good devices but very big. Have the One Plus 2 which has been very good and just the right size. Neither have a micro sd card slot but you could buy a usb-c flash drive that goes into the charing port.

Has anyone ever used the Asus Zenfone range? Would like to know what they are like.

You can sync almost any devices to cloud storage, even smartphones that cost less than £50 have that capability, it’s very basic technology. Apple does it all for you by surreptitiously acquiring your approval to do pretty much whatever it wants with your data, but anyone capable of using a forum is capable of setting up cloud storage on their own so that’s a ridiculous reason to spend £800 on a mid range phone, especially considering they’ll slow it down even more in 6 months.

How did you know you loved it before buying it? Genuine question.

Did my research Strokes. And I love Apple products.

What I didn't expect was to post what phone I had for it to be pulled to fookin pieces!

I should have expected it, I guess.

I’m not pulling you to pieces, I’m just curious. I’ve had a huge array of phones over the years as I used to fix and trade them. I personally think the merits of the Apple premium are dwindling and I’m unsure what to go for next myself. All phones are bit meh at the minute imo.

Well it does seem a tad harsh - particularly in comparison of another conspicuous purchase that you made this year that immediately springs to mind.

What's a good 5.5" (or larger) Android for £200 SIM-free? I have a Moto G4 which has served me well but it's falling to pieces now and the battery isn't what it once was

I still maintain that the Lenovo P2 I bought for £160 is just as good as any of the newer phones. It takes great 13MP HDR pictures too, and 4k video.

Gets an excellent review. It has a 5100mah battery which lasts me 3 full days on a single charge even with heavy usage. Best phone I've ever owned.

A phone has become more than a communication medium, it's becoming something of a fashion item and statement hasn't it. I think it has. The iPhone 8 plus oozes quality. I love how it looks, how it feels and how it works. For that, I'll pay the premium. Quality costs. How it all works is simple and makes sense. It was a close call between the iPhone and the Samsung 8.

Yeah I think that’s the issue I take with phones now, they’re all the same but people seem to care about paying for curves and edges. I guess I’m more of a tech nerd than a fashion guy.

I'm a bit of both. I love the tech, but love the look too.

Some things are just worth paying for, I think,

Cheers, but http://www.techradar.com/news/you-cant-buy-the-uks-best-cheap-phone-anymore

All I can find is refurbs or ordering from China (I had a bad experience last time I did that so would rather not do it again). Seems odd such a highly regarded phone has been pulled after a few months

My Motorola G's have done me proud. Admittedly the camera isn't great in low light (in fairness not many phone cameras are) and the absence of a compass makes navigation a bit weird, but beyond that I've been very happy, particularly as by the time I replace the current one I'll have spent a grand total of £320 on phones in four years

Yeah weird. I bought mine from dx.com from China. Still on there for £162.

It's an international version of the phone so no worries about compatibility or warranty. It just comes from a Chinese warehouse. No problems whatsoever with the site or purchase, shipped the next day, and you get tracking too. Shipping to delivery at my house took 12 days (shipped 24th Oct - delivered 6th Nov). No issues with customs either.

I understand the reticence with ordering from China though. I had that too, but ultimately went for it.
