another school shooting

Something I've said for years. Gun laws do need reform, I have no problem with a guy who lives miles from any law enforcement in Wyoming owning a weapon for his own security but when a guy in New York can go into a store and buy something that lets off 100 bullets a minute something is completely wrong.

There are so many guns in the USA it's not going to stop mass shootings happening, firearms are illegal across the Americas and they have huge problems everywhere except Canada, which probably shows it's cultural thing more than anything.

I disagree with this argument, yes there are currently a lot of guns in the US, but it is the normalisation and ease of access that is the problem. Tightening up gun laws will not immediately reduce the number of guns, but it will flag up young kids trying to buy guns. It will flag up people stockpiling guns. It will flag up people carrying guns as being an anomaly and not the norm. It may take time and shift in culture, but it needs to start moving in that direction.

Ban all automatic and semi automatic assault rifles, they serve no purpose other than to kill lots of people quickly  and give rednecks a hard on. Have an amnesty/buy back and round up as many as possible, stop the sale and distribution. Hand guns and hunting rifles only, in specialist stores with background and license checks. Implement cooling off periods and strict regulations on how guns are to be stored in the home.

None of this will deny the right to bear arms, but it will give greater control to go some way to preventing these tragedies.

Well that makes for better reading then.

It would if it was true.

I have already refuted his arrogant claims, he just doesn't have the courtesy to acknowledge it or apologise for his hostile tone.

Don't know if this has been said already - but I just skimmed over this as it happens so often now.

I remember so vividly Sandy Hook and being genuinely devastated about it. Innocent kids ffs being brutally murdered.

The government's ignorance and pathetic cowardly lack of regulation has meant that it happens so often now that It doesn't even surprise me anymore.

Maybe some of our oz foxes would know but didn't Australia once have a problem regarding firearms? I seem to remember reading an article on how they changed laws, took firearms out of circulation and generally changed the mentality surrounding guns which put a stop to these kind of shootings. I know the culture, intensity and frequency is different in the US but maybe they could learn some lessons and it maybe shows successful steps can be taken if the people who have the power care more for lives rather than votes and donors.

Whilst shootings in America are far too high and I think something needs to be done, that is the biggest load of bull I've read. A mass shooting happens around once per 50 days in the us.

Would just a handful of shootings be ok?!

I imagine there's loads of smaller shooting that happen which just don't get reported over here.

That's absolutely true. Most gun violence is usually gang violence, domestic violence, or suicide. Not to diminish the mass shooting epidemic, but even though they happen often here, it's a very unlikely way to die.

Sorry misread your post as mass shootings that kill at least 4 people happen every day. My mistake.

To use your term, that's a load of bull.

You misread nothing because that's exactly what I did claim - statistically they almost do.

How much would it cost for the local authorities over there allow a few security guards to be on guard of school premises?

As it seems like 9/10 shootings over there are to do with educational institutions.

Ban cigarettes, alcohol and barbers too

We've already had the "he wore socks too " reply. Just as irrelevant and boring the first time.

Fair play to the force that managed to capture the idiot alive, at the strong potential risk of having their lives on the line. Hope the courts don't give him a lenient sentence just because he's young etc..

The first source you provided uses a table to show shootings from 2017. Working through the list, there were 19 shootings that killed 4 or more people. That is around 5.3% of the number you are alleging.
