No insightful news for you. He was treated at C/bar hospital, then Univ Hosp in Galway.

Here's hoping he'll be alright.

The extent of the injury has upset any follower of the game I'd say.

Seems like a very decent man. One of the most consistent players of recent years too.

Obviously disappointed to lose to Kildare, but we may as well lose now than in September!

Was tough watching the game last night. I was hoping ye might do enough as ye have done the last 2 years but with 10 minutes to go the writing was on the wall. A lot of players in their 30s and losing the midfield was a hammer blow.

It's surely the end for Moran and Higgins, Boyle to name but a few have probably peaked. Even the players below 30 have played nearly as much football as Mayo did in the 70s and 80s combined.

2016 or 2017 was a great chance for ye. 2016 would have been something to savour after Leicester* (we've a few Mayo connections in Leicester I'm told!) and 2017 for the resilience in the Autumn of so many players careers.

Ye wont be far away from it though in the years ahead. Connacht isn't strong and a good draw throws ye close to the last 12. They won't go the way of Meath and Down.

*Makes you all the more glad Leicester took the chance when it was there.

A dramatic weekend in the football championship.

The new super 8s system came to life in a big way after a disappointing start.

Dublin and Galway have made the semi finals. The dubs beat Tyrone by 2 points amd Galway beat Kildare by the same amount yesterday. 2 good games.

The big story was the late goal that saved kerry from elimination. A superb goal with so many players in his way. But like Diego Maradona facing the Belgians way back when. Monaghan let a great chance of a semi final fall through their grasp.

Sets up monaghan and Galway in 2 weeks with kerry playing Kildare. A point will do monaghan to qualify. If not it could be kerry.

Hurling ....the game that just keeps on giving.....After a series of incredible matches in Munster and Leinster round robins this evening the first all Ireland semi final between reigning champs Galway against Clare finished  1 goal 30 point each after 20 mins extra time....Fantastic stuff for an amateur game with replay scheduled for next Sat.

Cracking contest. Clare looked like they would get hammered after 15 minutes but were unlucky not to win it. Galway for all the hype are not as good as people make out. They got over the line against a limited Waterford last year.

Cork and Limerick tomorrow.

Another absolute cracker of hurling semi final between Cork and Limerick in front of over 70k supporters....1 goal 27 points each at end of normal time and really close until 2nd period of et when 2 Limerick goals saw them eventually win by 4 points. It really is one of the most exciting team games out there

Football semi finals played over the weekend.

Dublin 1-24 Galway 2-12

Routine win for Dublin in the finish. A mesmerising second half completely overwhelmed Galway. Galway's first semi final since 2001 but they just were a tad too inexperienced at this level and it showed. A change of approach a la Man Utd hasn't won them too many fans. Dublin now heavy favourites to win 4 All Irelands in a row which has been achieved 3 times before. The 5 in a row is something of a holy grail in the game with Kerry in 1982 narrowly falling short. Dublin look well equipped to have a shot at it.

Tyrone 1-13 Monaghan 0-15.

1 point win or Tyrone who lost to Monaghan in Ulster back in May. Interesting contest but average enough football wise. The strength of Tyrones defence and a Kante like figure at midfield were vital to them. Felt sorry for Monaghan. A county with only 50,000 fans and 30 clubs. Would have been an incredible story had they got to the final.

Dublins approach and Tyrones somewhat laboured play would point to a heavy Dublin win. Knowing Tyrone who lost big to Dublin last year they might do better than people expect.

Its been a disappointing year for Football with 4 in a row for Dublin an inevitability the last few weeks.

The hurling championship after its most exciting in years takes centre stage this weekend. My own county Limerick takes on reigning champions Galway in the final. We haven't won the title since 1973 suffering 5 final defeats since. We have a very young team with around 11 under 24 but Sunday is a big chance. Let's we can do it!

Well done Limerick...The better team for most of the game. Fair play to Galway who gave it their all to hold onto their title ...Doesn’t get any closer than 1 point margin....What a summer of incredible sport served up in the hurling championship....

These are the days my friend.

We finally won the all Ireland ??

Football final today between 4-in-a-row chasing Dublin and complete outsiders Tyrone.

A bit of the razmattazz that Mayo brought to the scene is missing with them being knocked out early. Tyrone's first final since 2008 but there is a sense of inevitability about this one. Tyrone are viewed as being the more defensive of the in contrast to Dublin's impressive options in attack as well as the bench.

Dublin by 4.

A better match than many expected with Tyrone trying to be more expansive than last few years when they perfected the art of blanket defence but this Dublin unit is incredible.....3 or 4 new faces this year that just fit seamlessly into the set up...Given the youthful age of most its looking highly probable that 5 in a row will be celebrated next year ...

Dublin complete the 4-in-a-row. 2-17 to 1-14.

Only the 3rd county to do so.Result as expected but a bit better than what people were expecting.

They won in 3rd gear but Tyrone had more than enough chances to take it themselves. They just don't have the star power up front and had a lot of wides.  Dublin turned 4 4 point defecit into a 7 point lead in the 2nd quarter and it gave them a cushion that was out of Tyrone's reach.

I watched them play Galway in the semi final. The 2nd half perfromance was outstanding. Dublin in full flow is one of the most glorious things in world sport.

Its 6 finals since 2011 and 6 wins. Puts them equal now for me with what is viewed as the best team of all time Kerry who won 8 in their golden era from 1975-87. Winning the fabled 5 in a row next season would set them apart.

Is the rule that you have to play for the club/county where you live? Seems like Dublin will always have an advantage because people move there for work etc?

Not at all. Dublins biggest rivals of this era Mayo have had I believe 7 or 8 players that work in Dublin but there would be uproar if they played for Dublin. Most counties have something similar.A lot of the Monaghan team who lost the semi final to Tyrone work in Dublin but the honour of playing for their home county always wins out.

Dublins success is a bone of contention to dublin haters. There's a somewhat misguided view that its all down to funding they have received from the GAA but they've always had financial support. They went from 1995-2011 without any All Ireland so it's more down to a combination of a great team and others being in the doldrums.

1/3 of the country lives in Dublin but its not all that big in GAA terms really. Soccer is Number 1 for a lot of people there and other sports have a presence. There is something like 35-40 big clubs in the county and Dublin is also the 3rd smallest county by land. Too few clubs and not enough pitches for such a big population.

Mullinalaghta of Longford  have beaten Kilmacud crokes of Dublin 1-8 to 1-6.

A population of over 300 people and the club has beaten the biggest club in Ireland.
