Vegas help...

No you haven't got to wear trousers. I spent most of the time going from casino to casino in the day in shorts, flip flops & T-shirt.

If you are intending on watching a show buy the tickets directly from your hotel or other reputable box offices. Don't fall for people trying to sell you tickets on the street it's a scam.

What hotel are you staying in btw?

Wear whatever you feel comfortable in. I wore shorts pretty much all week when I was there, had no issues at all.

Any show tickets, there's a pop up outside Planet Hollywood. On the day, you can save yourself some serious change.

What hotel you staying in?

@Ross-Kemp  @Steve_Walsh5  I'm staying at the venetian.  It's a 50th present from my partner. She's paying for me and my 2 lads for 5 nights. (She's coming as well) but she was there about 7 years ago and seems to remember at night the casinos are a bit more fussy about dress code than during the day?

Anyway safe option is to pack a pair I suppose

I went a few years back and there wasn't a dress code or at least it wasn't enforced. I suspect there maybe a dress code, but only one that applies to "lads on tour" for an excuse to get rid of them. Have a great time. If you are able to go and shoot some guns at 'battlefield vegas' it was AMAZING there is plenty of  army vehicles and stuff for the kids and the wife to look around while you're shooting

Haha, as I said I'm going with my partner. If I was going with my (ex) wife she would be the target at battlefield vegas !??

My lads are 23 n 24 so I think they might be having a go with the guns as well

Yeah my partner has been before and she says craps is the best thing to do as its more sociable ? Whereby your playing with the whole table? I not got a  clue

Yeah, Its where all the loud shouts come from in the casinos. You bet on the dice roller getting a 7 or 11 on his first roll, and if he doesn't you are betting on him getting that number again before a 7.

Really good game, won about 300 bucks playing when I last went, just kept it simple and kept winning lol

Also has the lowest house advantage to any other casino game.

one thing i always say to people going to vegas is go to secret pizza in the cosmopotitan incredible maybe google its location as it isnt sign posted or advertised anywhere in vegas!

Go to the pepper mill for breakfast if you like pancakes you wont need to eat again for a long time absolutely amazing!

I bloody love vegas but the cost is just out of my budget these days the resort tax is about 5 times more than it used to be as well!

Going vegas tomorrow for the first time. Just been told there is a dress code of long trousers for most casinos? With the current temp at about 27° is this correct? Seems shorts would be a more comfortable option.

And any more tips from anyone who's been there? ?

Nonsense, you can wear what you want. Walking around most casino floors you will see people in shorts and vests.

I would imagine in high roller environments there would be a dress code but thats about it.

My experience is that some tables do have dress code restrictions, but they are usually roped off and are the reserved tables for the high rollers, in the more up-market Casino's...the general casino floor is absolutely fine though, and it clearly states what the betting limits are for each table, ie minimum $5, $10, $20 etc.

It's also worth noting that all of the casino floors are climate controlled and have absolutely no natural light, the 3 or 4 hotel casino's I went in also had "cloud" like landscapes on the ceiling, giving the casino floor a cool, light, bright environment to promote the 24 hour betting that they want you to embark upon.

Also push hard for some "comps" when you check in...you can get massive discounts on certain places to eat, drink, shows, trips etc by using your comps, dare I say the more you spend the more you get back...and as long as you're at the tables gambling then your drinks are usually free, and if your at the higher value tables sometimes food too...the better you tip the waitress the more often she comes back!

If you are buying show tickets I would advise getting them from the dedicated ticket desk in the big shopping mall, think it was the Forum, as the discounts were massive, they specialised in late availability. 4 or 5 years ago we saw a Cirque De Soleil show and had front row tickets at 60% off, booked the afternoon of the show, not normally my cup of tea but it was fantastic...you have to try everything in Vegas, nothing is quite what you expect, have a great time...and just go with the flow would be my advice

As another post pointed out, the Casinos are climate controlled - also the strip has fine water sprayed above the sidewalk. Plus, they want your money - so they won't turn you away. Besides, many of the locals come in in the evening for the shows and the buffets at MGM, Luxor and even Mandalay Bay and Bellagio looking like trailer trash. It's very easy to enter a Casino, but the trick is to find the way out - very cleverly designed. The older part of town down towards Fremont St. is less illustrious and the casinos are quite dated. You'll find Binions down there. This end is where the mob money was, where Howard Hughes became a recluse in the Sahara and the Rat Pack reigned.

Vegas is tacky and kitsch as **** and makes Andy Carroll's notion of interior design look tasteful in comparison. However some of the Casinos are astonishing feats of engineering and have to be seen and experienced. I used to stay in Henderson regularly as a base and tired quickly of downtown. the surrounding desert is fascinating - visit red rocks and go up into Mt.Charleston National Park where you can overlook Nellis Airforce base and the sight of the original nuclear tests. Astonishing to think that these were surface tests conducted only fifty miles away from Vegas using the Spring mountains as a shield. Folk used to drive up there to watch the mushroom clouds. I think the underground testing endured until the 80s but before then the fall out from the surface testing spread downwind into Utah. Read about the cast and crew of the John Wayne movie the Conqueror filmed on location in St George.

One more thing, in the States, the social gradient in many cities is precipitous. I was walking past Dennis Hoppers house once in Venice' LA, crossed the road into Crips territory and stepped over a corpse. One of the subdivisions behind The Stratosphere Tower is a crack den - easy for visitors to innocently wander in there. Vegas is safe in the strip, but the North side can be rough and some of the gated communities now house crime lords.

Saying that, I encourage you to hire a car and venture off the strip. So tragic the amount of people that have been there for the gambling or a stag weekend but never see anything beyond a square mile or so. The high desert is stunning. Don't get sold the obligatory trip to West rim of the Grand Canyon though. To see it properly you either need to go to South rim Angel Village resort or North (which is generally higher).

Pretty crazy thinking thinking the roll of a dice from a stranger could cost you thousands of pounds, such a brilliant game lol

When I went in Feb I rolled about 6 doubles in a row and the whole table was going crazy, I only know the pass line bet so had no clue why they all liked it at the time lol I've since figured it out.

...unless you play poker, which (unless you count the rake) has no house advantage at all as you're playing against other people rather than the house. Tends to be the only casino game I'll play.

However, you need practice and if you want the social/fun element and don't mind more risk craps is a much better idea.

And as some other people have said - go for the comps if you can get them!

Yeah I do actually play Poker as well, split a tourney between 4 in Planet Hollywood for $500 as well lol

I don't really class Poker as a casino game as per, so out of all the gambling games craps is the best.

Good for you! Won a little bit at Mohegan Sun a long time ago on this side of the US, was the last time I've been to an American casino. Would love to play again sometimes though.

I suppose in Vegas as someone who is a tourist but knows what they're doing it's just a matter of picking out the other tourists and avoiding the regs.

Must confess I've never played craps, sounds a hoot though!

Dress code haha. Have you seen what Americans wear? they have no dress sense

Been there many times its fine.

One thing I recommend is go to a shooting range and spray some shells. No other  feeling like like it. My weapon of choice was the Uzi 9mm. Vegas were dreams come true

The reason I probably love Vegas so much is because every time I go I end up winning money!

I had a bit of an embarrassing moment in the MGM the first time I went Vegas.

Walked up to a roulette table which was very busy put $5 dollars on number 8. The croupier told me it was a minimum $50 table, instead of just walking off embarrassment took over so I got another $45 dollars out and put it all on 8.

The wheel spun it landed on something else and I walked off $50 dollars down in about 40 seconds.
