"How much shall we ask for? $100, maybe $200 dollars?"

"Nah, lets go for the big money... $300 dollars in Bitcoin. Just think how many Pokemon and WOW power ups we could buy with that!"

bitcoin is used in ransomware as it is untraceable and non refundable. 1 bitcoin is currently worth $1776.

its basic ransomware someone has opened and since its on a vast network its spread like wildfire. its not a cyber attack just some twat has opened one of them dodgy emails.

I have worked at an NHS trust in their IT environment and the attitude towards IT security was pathetic so this does not surprise me. There attitude was 'we sit behind the main NHS firewall so we are fine'.........Not today lads.

Some of the shit that went down was mind boggling.

Banks are only slightly better. Incredible to imagine at least 3 of the top banks in the UK's IT architecture and security is either unknown or so poorly managed that is more luck that things do not go wrong more often.

It's the sort of thing you get from trying to download tentacle porn, the real scandal is if this has spread to multiple systems as it would indicate terrible security. I'd imagine some private IT firms seeing ££££ signs.

What's "tentacle porn"? Pornography showing people having sex with octopuses?

Honestly, the things you youngsters are into these days....
