Le Tour 2017

Its because he's so measured, methodical and seemingly unbeatable because of that. We all prefer the mavericks of sport or those that do things with more flair.

But if you look a bit deeper and consider just how good Froome is - you might start finding a bit more respect for him (which is probably as warm as you'll get).

I have the utmost respect for his achievements and I always have. For me it's how cold he comes as cross. As you say it's down to his sheer determination and steel, but I think his popularity with the British public will continue to be affected by his apparent lack of a human side - not that Froome will care one iota.

Froome in yellow and Sky taking the team race as well as Simon Yates winning the white jersey for best young rider a great tour for Btitain and with Bardet in third overall plus Barguil winning the King of the mountains jersey the French have had a lot to cheer about. Not a classic tour but a close race with some great moments

Nice start to the stage into Paris with team sky riders drinking champagne and beers! And the usual procession onto the Champs Ellyses before the sprint at the end and with no Cav, Sagan, Demare or Kittel the sprint should be interesting with Greipel the favourite

Controversial decision to give the most combative rider of the tour prize to Warren Barguil instead of Thomas de Geant who was always at the front of the race everyday in breakaways and always aminating the race but that's the tour judges decision!

Yes and no... attacking for attacking stake and getting nowhere at the end of it? I'm in agreement with giving it to Barguil

Great achievements by Froome, but what he could do with is one real and close contender to do battle with over the coming years to build his legend. He may even benefit in losing out to a fresh challenger initially, to then beat him in a classic ding dong battle later.

It may have something to do with his personality with people perceive him to be less of a character than either Wiggins or Cavendish and also the fact that he grew up in Africa

Bit more of a personality than andy murrey though.

just want to say my congratulations and what a terrific ride by Chris Froome to win the Vuelta espana for a Tour Vuelta double and becoming the first British rider to win the tour of Spain. he has had a great year but will probably not even get close to the Sports Personality of the year award!. well done Froomey

Good to see Chris Froome carry on his great year by winning Bronze in the time trial at the cycling world championships! Tom Dumoulin is by far the best time trialist at the moment and thoroughly deserved to win and was clearly streets ahead of everyone else!

great ride by Peter Sagan to win the world road race title, the guy is simply amazing and one of the best bike handlers in the world!. you don't see him all race until the last 100 metres of the race and then he is there. an unbelievable bike rider. and great for Britain's Ben Swift finishing fifth

So the race organizers of the Tour De France wanted to ban Chris Froome after his adverse test at last years Vuelta but he has won his appeal and will start this years race, and the UCI has closed the salbutamol case against him. so he has been cleared. the whole case should have been sorted out much sooner.
