Can you prove they paid, as far as I can see he never signed for them, stayed with you and left on a free a year or so later. You don't get to keep the money and the player.

He didn't stay. He left at that time. And yes, Nice did pay. The deal was structured in a weird fashion, meaning they had to pay X amount per year. Nice ended up paying something like a million euros. FIFA sided with Sporting back in 2012 and they payed later that year, or early 2013.

Like I said, it was a gigantic mess, and should be a case study for clubs on how NOT to deal on deadline day.
I believe part of the reasoning that saw us winning that was that it was Nice that screwed up the deal, thus making us the injured party.

Given that both clubs are confident the deal was done correctly and on time, I expect this will be approved.

I've just found the documents, it was a mess because they cancelled his contract and let him go to benfica, rather than just hold his registration until the January.

All here if anyone wants a read.

Thank you for follow up and glad you agree on attributes, and that's what's important. I think comparing players is always dangerous - like I said, it was from my good friend who is a Porto fan.  He has some very nice things to say about him (unlike us with Will Hughes for example! lol ). Also credited his professionalism for giving a 100% after not being allowed to join us last Summer too.

Hope you stick around to follow us now we have two (well one confirmed!) former SCP players, would love it to turn into a love affair with the Foxes too.  @LisbonFoxes is still available I think!

It's little wonder that he said what he said. It's not a compliment to Adrien, it's a dis on William, who stayed at SCP (so far) and is always a subject of debate on his merits against porto's Danilo Pereira, whom benfica and porto supporters rate higher than William, but Sporting fans and people with eyes do the opposite.

Adrien is a great box to box, stronger on defensive work than offensive creativity, but still quite good in attack. He runs A LOT. He's always pressuring the ball carrier, and you'll see him up front side by side with the attackers and back near the box with the defenders. He has good ball control, but his strength  is in deciding quickly whether to pass or drible. If he has the freedom to show up near the opponent's area, he's a pretty decent shot on goal, with more power than precision, but enough on both, but he's not a goal scorer. A lot of his goals for Sporting were from the penalty spot, which he takes very well.

Hard to contain the excitement on this one till we see him wear the shirt! Every signing is a risk but this guy could be incredible for us. I wonder if we will ever try a midfield 3 of Silva, Iborra and Ndidi because would give us composure, dynamism, aerial presence and passing ability. Add Maguire and Mahrez to the mix and suddenly we'd have way more creativity and still retain the threat on the break.

I actually would have loved to see him and Drinkwater together but I am pleased with this one. A class act all round, a leader and in his prime.

This is the strongest squad we've ever had.

The fact that statement is so short doesn't exactly fill me with confidence. They've made a song and dance about signings before that needed international clearance!!

Exactly.

Thats an announcement covering their arses.

Then they can blame FIFA, and they think can save face with the fans when it's thrown back at them.

If it goes through now, there has been a back hander.

Drinkwater : 13 goals in 193 appearances for the City ( only 3 in the premier league ).

Silva : 32 goals in 168 appearances for Sporting.

Liking this already .. if he can chip in with 5-10 goals this year he will be invaluable

Hasn't he been at sporting for like 15 years ? If so 168 aperances is quite worrying haha

Always a risk basing things on YouTube but you can already imagine Vardy and Nacho enjoying playing with him. Sporting fans reviews are encouraging.

Assuming he signs it's now all about how quickly he can acclamitise to the pace of the Prem. Been better midfielders than him sign from Europe and struggle to adapt. If he can though him and Wilf/Iborra on paper look like a match made in heaven!

Sporting fans seem to really rate this guy

They do hype up players in Portugal a bit. After all, Slimani has struggled to make the impact we'd hoped for and he seems built for the Premier League.

It would be so great to actually watch a player again, in a City shirt, who can spray the ball around for fun. Cambiasso was the last one. I so hope Silva has the energy to match his footballing ability.

A positive comment about Cambiasso :o

Are you feeling okay?

Having read the lot, it does seem far more complicated than just a case of "you signed the contract, you must pay", he'd trained and played with them in a friendly, which Sporting argued was activation of the contract. Nice also mucked the player about by not paying him, forcing him to cancel his contract with them. Sounds very much like it could have all been avoided and there were chances missed to a) actually get a successful appeal against the late filing of the papers (You can actually file late, so long as it's not "unduly" late and there is a reason why that was), and b) they could have avoided executing the contract with Sporting.
