He gave the ball away a lot. A ridiculous amount of times. He didnt create enough to justify that. I think King probably did as well creating good chances.  Our only goal was nothing to do with him, but Gray was involved in it.

WThe trouble with players that actually try to create chances is that they can lose the ball. You originally said he wasn't creative, but you seem to have acknowledged that he was, but said he wasn't creative enough to justify losing the ball?

I didnt acknowledge that he was creative. You said he was creative compared to the others, but as a team we didnt create a lot, so its not saying much. I just mean his performance i would not describe as creative. Slimani won the ball and started that chance that he almost scored btw. Could argue Mahrez was in the middle of that chance and made it a worse chance by the end.

Its not that i dont like him. But we play him week in week out based on awareness of his talent, not performance. Added to the fact he's desperate to leave makes me uncomfortable that we'll persevere no matter what. I'd  like to go a game where we dont put him on until the second half

And btw, I feel my point of view shows that I have a higher view of him than people who accept how he played yesterday.  I think he can and should be better

Exactly, it was Grays tenacity that forced Alsono into the mistake that resulted in the pen. And for all the grief both Gray and King get, we looked far better going forward with both. That last 15-20 mins we really gave it to Chelsea and even with 2 lucky goals we still almost got something from the game. I'm still positive it will be a good season as long as we play with attacking intent.

Some reasonable points there, I know he can do better, but you have to be realistic about how much a player can do with a limited amount of the ball. If he can get criticised for creating a clear cut chance for Slimi, then we are not being reasonable.

by the way if you view Gray's contribution to the goal as an example of creativity then I suspect we will struggle to agree on much. Look at Gray's performance - he did well, he's a class act, but the way he struggled to make any kind of impact in a creative sense? That is why Mahrez being involved in our best passages of play is worthy of acknowledgement.

Indeed. It's a tough chew, but he needs to move on from his price tag, it's really not worth it.

Not sure if you agree, but there could be a way to make it work, but there's no way we'd build the team around Slim.

Dont disagree with you there.  I just worry about us going through another season or half season wondering if Mahrez believes he can even play with this team. Maybe its too soon for such worries with the fixtures we've had. Next week might be a more realistic view of where we are, and also Mahrez. Who I think still stands out like a sore thumb as our most talented player, but i'm not sure if his head is in the right place

I think we need to look at some different tactical options to be honest. At least as back-up plans.

The current system involves defending deep and attacking in short bursts - we are very reliant on Mahrez for his moments of skill when we play like this.

I'd like to see us try and get a foothold in the game at times by playing 3 at the back and having more players higher up the pitch. I think we could the look at dropping Riyad in a 3-5-2 formation.

Good debate anyway pal!

I take your point, but 'nearly all'? Come on.

Good debate, its a tricky one really. Maybe with a couple of changes of players we can be better going forward, such as Iheanacho and Gray for Oka and Albrighton. I know a lot of people will say Marc doesnt deserve to be dropped, but I think we havent given a chance of Gray and Mahrez on each wing. People will say we would suffer defensively, but it would give us maybe a more balanced and dangerous attack. Be intrigued to see it used more. Marc could have an impact off the bench with Slim also maybe

I sit in b3 right to the side of the box.

A previous break saw the ball put in and i thought morata was off ... the lino didnt flag.   But it came to nothing.

At their next break they scored... i was watching morata when the ball was kicked and he was clearly off.. just. But it was clear.

We have had that lino before he is always crap

Thought..  when the winger is shaping to cross why doesnt Morgan just let the fwd drift offside. Why does he move back too?

Mahrez needs to look at the video again and understand the decisions he's getting sooo wrong. I would start grey ahead of mahrez now. Akbrighton should not be the one to be dropped

Slim needs to sort out his back to goal play... shooting from the box edge... he shouldn't play again till he has done this

If iborra or silva cant be a playmaker we are in deep sh1t.

Shakes is too cautious. ..  he is tring not to get hammered..  at 1 down he tried to keep the score down rather than chase the game .  I like shakey.... but i will say it now.....   He is not the guy for us and until he goes we are in the brown stuff

Finally. .. selling drinky was a massive error. It's like saying to the others "don't worry about honouring yojr contracts ...if u want to go we wont get in your way"

WE ARE NOT A BETTER TEAM WITHOUT DD

We are if we sort the Silva situation out. Watch you tube vids of this guy, he's a class act. We will undoubtedly be a better side with Silva in the team. Far better player than DD imo

Not read the thread, but for me the biggest issue is tactical/formations. We can't play 442 against these top teams. Not without Kante and certainly not without Okazaki either. Sadly our manager hasn't figured this out yet (or if he has it's a little late). Furthermore, even if we do go this way, we'll have to sacrifice several excellent forwards for more mediocre midfielders.  Vardy then becomes isolated too. Not good, but at least we've winnable games coming up soonish.

At times yesterday I was also a bit disappointed by our lack of steel in 50-50s. Mahrez, James, King all guilty of it.

All that said, we played ok yesterday. Really hope Huth still has legs, and Silva gets pushed through. We've a great looking side of so.

Oh, and we need to start picking up points soon else pressure will really begin to build.

Tough ask to come on at 80 mins when it's like a game of basketball

worried that the only time he got into a tackle he seemed to get a knock which forced him to limp the rest of the game.

possible that the toe injury he has is not mending and he is only available with a pain killing jab. Shakey did say a few weeks back that he had visited a specialist about it.

Why didn't we get a free-kick on the edge of the box when James was fouled? I know both went off briefly with head injuries but that was a clear foul. How the ref decided they should give the ball back to Schmeichel was baffling.

A lot of people get annoyed with brainless negativity - and rightly so.

I think constructive criticism of tactical changes or defensive naivety is understandle, but spouting overreactive non-sense doesn't help anyone. Stuff like "Mahrez crap again today" when he was clearly our most creative player will always get a reaction.

I think that positivity and being supportive of the players in the ground helps enormously.

Mahrez created nothing and was so, so poor.

And if we are saying he set up Slimani's chance as a 'defence'; He did, but he was given the ball unmarked, ran, dilly dallied, and then decided against passing to Vardy who was in better position than his compatriot. He made the wrong decision.

His position lends itself to being creative, and that's his job, but little to no end product month after month tells its own story.

Pissing about going awol last week, 9/10 games we get nothing from him.

Staggered Shakey started him tbh. Mahrez is only running rings around one person the last 6 months - Shakespeare.

Yeah that's right it's simple to create from the wings, that's why Albrighton and Gray created so many chances between them?

I thought he neglected the pass to Vardy and gave Slimani a fantastic opportunity on goal - which anyone who has watched football knows he should have scored. Fair play the keeper made a good save. Had Riyad tried the pass to Vardy (which actually wasn't on) then he would have been groaned at for not being more positive with the ball. That was absolutely fantastic play that should have put us one up at half time.

Against United he was the only player who looked capable of offering anything up front -and people still moaned.

Wow, I stand corrected. King deserves a place in the starting line up.

Haha, there is no need to get so butthurt just bc people disagree with you. Nobody suggested that he belonged in the starting line-up. But I know I noticed a number of instances in which he positively distinguished himself, which I noticed specifically bc I expect so little of him. But the reality is, with Drinkwater gone and Mendy out on loan and Iborra out and Silva not registered, yeah, King i sprobably our 3rd string CM. Is what it is.

It really is weird how there is absolutely no mention of Morata's goal being offside or at least very close to it anywhere. Still we had probably lost anyway.

I thought this the first time I saw the replay on the stream. Haven't watched it back again for clarity yet though.

Edit: It's very tight, could possibly argue his right leg is offside and he should therefore have been flagged.

FAO AYLESTONERAIDER.

Again you are using 'the only one to create' argument.

Its a total red herring.

Its like me saying Kapser played really well - as he's the only player that made any saves yesterday.

Total nonsense, that would be, as is your statement.

He has created knowhere near enough for the opportunities he's has had end of story.

For a player so skilled his stats in the PL are a joke: he is not performing and should be benched.

Failure to address the question as to why he creates more than any other option we have. The only way he can be benched is if we change formation. If we don't, he is our only real option to create anything when we defend from deep and rely on him beating players.  Hence why, if you rewatch the highlights you will see that he was at the heart of every promising passage of play that we put together yesterday.

The goal did not arise from a promising passage of play - it was Vardy's nous that won the pen after a disjointed move.

If we play 3-5-2 he should be dropped. If we are more adventurous and try 3-4-3 i would play Riyad and Gray either side of Vards. Either way I feel we need to look at 3 at the back and trying to meet be away from the deep-lying back four. The system is denying Mahrez the opportunity to express his wizardry and he is being blamed for our over-reliance upon him within a failing formation!

**** me - I'm boring myself - I'm gonna go and eat my roast dinner?
