Unpopular Opinions You Hold

Recommended Posts

Generally, when people say they dislike the Leicester accent they do an impression of a really thick person with a thick Leicester accent which isn’t really representative of the accent as a whole. You can say the same about basically any accent in the country, thick people make accents sound awfully, as a rule.

The Leicester accent isnt massively distinctive, not really like Cockney, Geordie, West Country etc

The thicker south Leicester (the saff/wigston etc) accent is quite distinctive but you don't realise it until you spend time away and come back. I was shocked how much I noticed it the first time I came back from uni many years ago.

As someone born and brought up in Leicester, yet living away for a few decades I have to say that the Leicester accent is one of the worst as is the Dudley/Black Country accent. In fact most midlands accents are pretty bad.
