Unpopular Opinions You Hold

Recommended Posts

There is no such thing as equality! There is no such thing as "world peace"! There is nothing called "fairness" in this world! You take what you can get. It's the rule of the jungle out here, the only deference is now, lions are wearing suits!

7 Billion people in the world. 7 BILLION! Some sadly have to die, some have to starve to death, some have to get the short end of the stick!

You can't feed 7 billion people, you just can't. there is not enough to go around.

Do people actually think that many governments/people of interest around the world want the wars and illnesses to go away? They are limiting the amount of people. If there was no wars, no illnesses and no conflicts, how can the world manage to take care of every single person?

People trying to take the moral high ground and ask for "world peace", it ain't happening!

We live in the most peaceful era in history, and famine is well on the way to being properly ended. More people die from obesity than from either war or famine.

It depends on who's you're asking? is it peaceful For america and northern/middle and western europe? of course! Is it peaceful for the people in Africa/The Middle East and many other 3rd world country? no, not a chance!

We are living in an era of manufactured peace. The balance of powers has never been greater! There was a time when the Romans and many other great armies made the world shake with fear but never did they have the power to wipe a whole great country in a day.

Now the uncertainty is at an alltime high, you don't know a friend from an enemy and one little slip can mean the end of you and your people. Now people are brainwashed by the media to believe everything their goverement want them to.

Since they embraced free markets. Didn't Mao starve about 40 million to death?

Mainly of course, opening the country up to capitalism. Only you could see 450,000,000 lifted out of poverty because of that and then talk about 60,000,000 being killed under communism and still wonder which system you might think as the best.

It's a different issue and argument but China opening itself to the World will have bigger consequences than we can imagine now, tourism alone will start to be restricted as the numbers of them travelling is mammoth now and set to increase by a third before 2020, the numbers are going to be astronomical the it's more economic development advances.

true indeed.. amazing that one single theory isnt perfect huh.

The NHS is a wonderful example of capitalism seeing its flaws...as with social securtity etc... it just requires that current capitalism has gone too far, nationalising  essential services and mines would start to bring a balance back

Yes, yes you can. We have allowed ourselves, as a planet, to be in a situation whereby 0.001% of people own $10 trillion.

This video has done the rounds thrice over but it's so interesting, in particular the fact that 1/100 people would control 50% of the world's economy :-

Globally it's the most peaceful time in history. There are still conflicts but nothing compared to the past.

I agree that's partly because of the possibility of nuclear war. And maybe that peace is manufactured and uneasy. But then again maybe it's not. It's hard to say. Whatever it is, it is effective.

I think relative peace in terms of physical violence is here to stay, future battle grounds will be fibres and the soldiers will be 1's and 0's.

It's exploitative / immoral / unscrupulous (not sure which word best fits) to be a buy to let landlord.

It's exploitative / immoral / unscrupulous (not sure which word best fits) to make or sell smartphones like apple and Samsung and designer clothes and accessories oh, and to sell food at a profit.

Young people should not be allowed to leave their parental home or buy phones, cars, cigarettes or alcohol until they have saved enough money for a deposit on a home and are in a position to pay the mortgage on any loan for their home that they need to take out.

Leaving the house, having a phone, owning a car and occasionally socialising with alcohol are all beneficial in the pursuit of careers, money and eventually home ownership.

Completely isolating young people isn't going to help them save for anything - how will they integrate socially and form friendships, work relationships, romantic relationships - all things that factor into eventually having a house?

It's like some weird distopian future.

The Otis Redding song ‘Sitting on the dock of the bay’ is shit. Boring!

Shit might be harsh actually but it’s overrated

Have you listened to it on a summers day whilst wasting time... ‘sitting on the dock of the bay?’

(easy to sing catchy lyrics, metronome style beginning, stirring rise and falls and the instruments whistle section are all aspects that point to why the song has become ‘overrated’)

What about ones who don't want to buy a house?

I know I’m one of the very few to have this view, that’s why I put it in the unpopular opinions thread

Well with phones, designer clothes etc people are free to simply ignore and not buy them. People need homes to live in! Food hasn't really gone up in price higher than inflation or earnings so I don't think that's worth bringing up. House prices have hugely outpaced incomes.

Do you accept that buy-to-let landlords have inflated house prices? (of course this being only one factor in a sea of many).

If you do, do you simply not care about the effect this has on aspiring first time buyers?

I'm not looking to attack you here by the way FIF if you are a BTL landlord, just argue the toss fairly! (although I do have a bee in my bonnet about them at the moment for persona reasons)
