psychonaut Posted 23 October 2017 Share Posted 23 October 2017 https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/football/blog/2017/jun/15/claude-puel-southampton-premier-league-expectations A fairly interesting read. Seems the 8th place finish is a bit of a red herring - was only 6pts above a 17th place finish and 17pts lower than their previous years points total. Sounds like fans were clearly frustrated with his overly conservative and cautious tactics. 41 goals in 38 games. Apparently his message to players was to always play positive though, his previous jobs in france allude to his teams playing attractive football. Spiritwalker Posted 23 October 2017 Share Posted 23 October 2017 Puel would be just as shit as Pardew and Coleman IMO.

Having to rebuild maybe. Could possibly account for the extremes in finishing position. Could allude to him being a little rigid though or lacking in any plan b. Bboy Posted 23 October 2017 Share Posted 23 October 2017 If the owners truly want a high profile manager, then surely Puel isn't it? Would seem to be an uninspiring move for a guy who has done o.k but isn't tearing up trees. Plus very uncharismatic so not a great marketing asset to the club. it just makes no sense. I would rather be exciting and mid table than boring and mid table thanks.

Bossman Blessed It Posted 23 October 2017 Share Posted 23 October 2017 Dyche is a good option for us in truth. Very much over-performed with an incredibly limited budget and relatively poor facilities. He has developed a real nucleus at Burnley which isn't too dissimilar to our title winning formula - hard workers. I think with a bit more cash at his disposal he could do great things with us. Ric Flair Posted 23 October 2017 Share Posted 23 October 2017 He wouldn't be the worst choice would Puel. He seems to have been given a lot of time at all his jobs in France mind you and he won't get that with us. Only chance he has is to start well with us, just like Ranieri and Shakespeare before him. There's something Pearson about him, probably the dour look, the fact he was sacked by southampton as well and that they are perhaps unfairly dubbed a defensive manager. Pearson got time with us though to build, certainly the 2nd time round and like Puel in France they were at clubs or in a division that afforded time but you don't get that in the PL. I'd not be against this though, he is very pro developing young players and he's certainly look to introduce a better way of retaining possession, I just hope he'd also be mindful of our strengths as a counter attacking and fast team and blend the two. I have read a few bits that he went conservative at Southampton when chronic injuries set in and he realized that defensively they were sound so he could tighten up and pinch goals and see out games which ultimately cost him as they drew and lost far too many in the 2nd part of the season. They played us off the park both games those that, absolutely destroyed us at their gaff.
