Misheard Lyrics

Recommended Posts

Any songs that you hear and either totally get some of the lyrics wrong or just make them up entirely?

One that i change is in a song by The Streets called Could well be in

The real lyrics are

I saw this thing on ITV the other week, said that if she plays with her hair she’s probably keen.....

everytime I hear it its

I saw this thing on ITV the other week, said that if she plays with her hair she’s Robbie Keane

Thanks to the film I Give it a Year, I can no longer hear 'We Built this City' without singing 'on the wrong damn road' as opposed to 'on rock and roll'.

Adam (Buxton) and Joe used to do a similar feature on their radio show and my favourite was always the misheard 'I'm so horny, but that's ok my willy's good' from Nirvana's - Lithium.

Pefab Sprout's "The King of Rock and Roll"

Hot Dog, Jumping Frog, Alf was cooking...

What was I cooking? Hot dogs served with live-cooked frogs.....the animal rights folk will be after me! ;)

3 songs whose lyrics I misheard for many years.....

1) "I fought the law" by The Clash: correct lyric is "Breaking rocks in the hot sun, I fought the law and the law won"

I heard "Trash can rocks in the hot sun...", imagining a fatal shoot-out scene in a NY alley - obviously watching too much Starsky & Hutch!

2) "Badlands" by Bruce Springsteen: correct lyric is "For the ones who had a notion, a notion deep inside; that it ain't no sin to be glad you're alive"

I heard "For the ones who have an ocean, an ocean deep inside; it ain't no sin to be glad you're wild" - at least as good as the original lyrics, I reckon!

3) "Torches of liberty" by 3 Johns: correct lyric is "When people feel the thumb press down, they turn into a mob"

I heard "When people feel themselves pressed down, they turn into a mouse".....I have a more pessimistic view of humanity, clearly!

There are two that spring to mind for me,

Kasabians Shoot the Runner, was Ship to Rudder for me,

and UB40'S Ivory Madonna was; I'm a Prima donna

I'm quite sure there are plenty of songs that I still sing the wrong lyrics to.

I thought that until about two minutes ago when I read your post.

Also, Neil Young introducing someone from Pearl Jam in The Band's last concert (The Last Waltz, in which they were joined by a number of musical legends) - I heard 'from Belgium' lol

Britney Spears' Toxic.

Actual lyrics:

The taste of your lips, I'm on a ride

mishead lyrics:

the taste of your lips are rubbery

I'm addicted to you, but you know that your cock stinks.

That's not misheard lyrics, just how I feel about Stan.

Gala - Freed From Desire aka the Will Grigg's on fire song.

Lyric is '...he's got his strong beliefs'.

I always thought it was '...he's got his tromboleese'.

Thought it was some obscure musical instrument lol

I still sing Trumbalese anyway. You are not alone.

The Foundations "Build Me Up Buttercup"

Actual lyric: "I'll be home, I'll be beside the phone, waiting for you".

What I always hear: "I'll be home, I'll leave my xylophone waiting for you"

Teardrop Explodes: "Reward".

Actual lyrics: "Bless my cotton socks I'm in the news"

I hear; "Bless these cotton socks I've never used"

Chic perform onstage
