Best Away Day

Anyone at Brunton Park Carlisle in Feb 83. Gerry Daly scored the only goal. Absolutely freezing, got back about midnight. I  think it was right of the start of an unbeaten run to the end of the season that saw us get promoted

I seem to remember we had snow around that time as well and we'd been on a poor run. That really is great support.

I went in 2008 when it snowed and we were one down after about 7 minutes but came back to win 2-1 just before Christmas in Div 1 but Feb 83 trumps that.

That was nuts.

I was in the Doug Ellis stand that night with my old man and some of his work mates who were Villa ST holders. I obviously kept quiet as we kept conceding and then ended up not being able to contain myself as we came back into it. When our forth went in I went mental and a load of Villa jumped over seats to get at me. My Dad, his mates and some stewards had to stop them and it all kicked off and I ended up getting escorted out just before the final whistle for my own safety. Our away end looked the happiest I've ever seen it that night :)

We ended up going for a curry in Brum after and sat on a table next to Mark Bosnich and his missus. What a bizarre night!

I was there and we gave it large outside after the game. I remember singing the Blues are staying up for about half an hour after the game knowing full well we were already about down in Feb I think it was.

They were more than a bit peeved.

Loads to choose from and apart from the Wembley trips most of mine have already been mentioned.

Notts County ZDS, as a young lad and first real season of travelling to away games with my mates. The soccer special train there, getting absolutely drenched, getting smacked in the head by a stray ball in the warm-up when I wasn’t looking, plus the abuse the Notts groundsman got at halftime/extra time. Brilliant.

Wimbledon in the semi-final 2nd leg. After getting completely lost on the way there, still never heard an away end as loud as we were that night.

Blackburn. Bring on the Rooster! Kenny’s gone and fu@£ed it up again! Standing knee deep in sporting blue shreds thinking finally this is going to be our year. (Thanks Mr Speedie).

Barnsley promotion year. My sons first ever away game with me, we were so superior I could actually stand and enjoy the game with no nerves for a change. ‘There’s only 1 Steven Dawson’!

They are all great shouts and great memories.

I remember away days when you were just pleased / ecstatic if we scored. If the goal was to equalise or take the lead then even better. You'd got more chance of seeing Lord Lucan riding Shergar than an away win.

So true, I remember Mills scoring in a 1-0 win at stoke which was our first away win in over a year. I remember like yesterday the panic felt by people when we started singing jingle bells, and the jubilation when the final whistle went, and the taking the piss Out of the angry old boys in the seats above us. lol

Yeah I remember in the coach park after which I think was fenced pretty high, we were all giving it the "lets all have a disco" for ages until the old bill got rid of all the Villa trying to scale the fences lol

Great night!!

This probably won't get a look in for how disappointing the manner of defeat was, but Arsenal away this season was up there for me - Friday night, easy travel, open concourse, sold out away end after months without football, and because we played before everyone else, all the classics came back from our title winning season, 'We're top of the league', 'We're on our way', 'Shakespeare's taking us to Europe', and my personal favourite, 'it's happened again!'.

Such a shame about the result but in terms of the scenes when Vardy scored both goals and how vocal we were, I really enjoyed it.

For me it was Atletico Madrid in '97. The whole trip was a story in itself, and it was my first European away game. It meant so much just to be there, and when we scored, the feeling was just indescribable. Only replicated recently in the CL, but as with many things, the first experience is hard to beat.
