  1. 1. Which one was better?

those of us who have played (especially up front)  know how difficult that skill was on Saturday. the lack of press pundits creaming their pants over it shows how few of them have played the game !!!  most of those on the tv are ex players and have given it the respect it deserved

West Brom by a mile.  Long ball over his shoulder, weak foot, defender breathing down his neck, instinctively knew where the goal was. I haven't seen a better goal in years.

The Liverpool goal is third for me.  Brilliant. But the bounce slowed the ball right down. With the ball in front of him he was able to see the keeper off his line.

Anyone drawing comparison between that and Van Basten's against Russia seriously needs their heads testing.

The Liverpool one will live on forever. The length of Ryiad's pass from a difficult position and the power of the shot after a deft adjustment is pornographic. It's amazing we have these two players. One of the finest finishers and one of the finest passers in the league. And we found them and we developed them. Surely the finest partnership in the entire history of Leicester City football club.

Also in the context of that match Liverpool were exerting pressure and struggling to gain the initiative . Two passes and JV had  the game won .

wasn't the Liverpool 'volley' a half volley?

No, it was neither a volley nor a half volley, it was a shot ( a fantastic one mind you)

a half volley is the moment you kick the ball at the same instant the ball hits the ground, which in theory generates more power to the shot

therefore the best volley was v West Brom

pure excitement v Liverpool as I sit behind that goal

the way i see it, i reckon if i wasn’t given 100 attempts at the liverpool goal i’d find the top bin a couple of times and hit the target possibly more often than not.

if i was given 100 attempts at this weekend’s one i genuinely don’t think i’d even connect with the ball more than about twice. it is absolutely insanely good and difficult to do.

The goal v Liverpool was one of the best goals ever.  Ever.

But to go off on a tangent and have a good old rant ...

Why do so many people not know what a volley is?    It really is very simple.

The Oxford Dictionary defines a volley as thus:

"(in sport, especially tennis or football) a strike or kick of the ball made before it touches the ground."

Note those important words "before it touches the ground".

If you receive the ball from someone else, and the ball touches the ground before you kick it ... IT IS NOT A VOLLEY.

If the ball is off the ground when you kick it, it is just a shot.

Or a half volley

They're all world class in their own rights. All technically wonderful too. I voted for West Brom simply because out of all three it's the hardest one to score.  To watch the ball over his head, hit it on the first time volley so sweetly without even looking where the goal is absolutely phenomenal.

I voted for the Liverpool one, in the context of where we were in the most unbelievable season in our history and for what it represented. For me the goal summed up the entire season.

They are all fantastic goals. I hope Vardy sees his career out with us. He's an absolute legend and I can't imagine us without him at the moment.

West Brom. That goal is pure staring out of the window during a dull geography lesson daydreaming about scoring the winning goal in 7 in the 93rd minute of the World Cup final vs Germany. Magic. You could get the best delivers of the ball paired with the best finishers in the world and they wouldn’t be able to pull that off 1 time in 100.

How lucky are we to have such a fantastic player who has scored not one but three goals of such insane quality. Enjoy him and Riyad whilst we have them!

The WBA goal is the best in terms of technique and must be a contender for goal of the season.

I think the Liverpool one is “the worst” of the three but as others have mentioned one of the most memorable ever scored. To quote Jeff Stelling on Sky, “and you have to ask yourself if the Premier League has Leicester’s name on it!!!?!”

It did!! :scarf:

Walked into the office yesterday and 3 people who support other teams mentioned Vardy's goal at the weekend.

We are so lucky to have him at the club and it is a credit to him that he wants to be here and just loves playing his football. I absolutely adore the guy.

Personally I voted for the Liverpool goal as the best, but to be honest it could quite easily have been the WBA one, but I think the emotions against Liverpool meant so much that it was hard not to go with that one. As far as technical ability goes though there is no doubt at all that the WBA goal was frankly world class.

I think people are under estimating the Liverpool one, the ball was spinning when it came back off the turf and the angle is a lot harder than the West Brom one.

West Brom one was still pure class but the Liverpool one with the context of the season has to be the better of the two, technically its not a proper volley but still a better goal I think.

Liverpool all day long, the other 2 were impressive but that Liverpool belter was probably the best assist and possibly the best goal I have ever seen in a match. I'm not having "it was a fluke", that's exactly what Vardy was trying to do. It couldn't have been more perfect

If you ever played the game you surely know that:

- Once the ball bounces off it loses a considerable amount of energy therefore (a bit) more controllable.

- Volleying the ball is generally risky and has more chance to miss the goal and kill someone in row c-z depending on the guy's skill.

- Volleying the ball from 20 yards with the weak foot is generally a death warrant for any nearby flying pigeon.

- Blind volleying a 50 yard ball coming from behind with the weak foot in the rain from 20 yards is generally a guaranteed destruction for any nearby orbiting satellite .

I can understand people saying the Liverpool one was better because of all what it meant but if we speak about technique it's not even up to debate.

'Better' is such a subjective term.

WBA and Spurs were by far and away more technically difficult than the Liverpool goal. If he'd have tried each of those 3 shots 100 times, he'd have pulled off less of the WBA and Spurs strikes than the Liverpool one by some stretch.

But then the Liverpool one looked quite spectacular due to distance from goal, and then there's the context of the season to take into account.

Personally my perception of 'better' is which one required the most skill. For me that's WBA, closely followed by Spurs.
