The last time we were not involved in either a relegation or title fight.....

2011. Pearson's first season back at the club. And even then that's about the only season since the mid table days of O'Neill (up to 2001) that we've had mid table mediocrity.

What a ride.

And yet, still something to be playing for!

Any news about likely starting line-up tomorrow?

We finished 10th in the championship under Sven

We were on the cusp of the playoffs for most of that year but I get your point.

What about last season? We were pretty much safe this time last year - only won 2 of last 8 games and finished 10 clear of relegation zone.

I'm a bit disappointed that Charlie Adam isn't in the frame for a starting place...

I guess we were still in the shit until relatively later in the year, plus we had the excitement of the CL.

It was a case of being perfectly fine but a month/month and a half of being utterly useless got people excited.

I didn't think we were ever going down.

I don't know, after Middlesborough NYD I was genuinely concerned.

It was what followed Middlesboro that was truly awful.  At least we got a point there.  We had the worst record in all four divisions for the first 7 games of 2017 - one point.

We were in freefall and in the bottom three.  It looked very bleak indeed and yet when Ranieri got the inevitable boot, the football world went beserk.

Still rankles with me.  I don't remember Chelsea getting the same abuse for sacking Champions League winner Di Matteo or title winner Mourinho after much fewer games.

After Swansea last season I honestly thought we were gone. Was it 7 league games without a goal. This season has been the calmest in the last 7 years for sure
