Wow there's a lot of hyperbole.

ON the face of it, it looks like a very limited airstrike that allows all parties to save face.

Three main targets linked to chemical weapons appear to be struck, all of which will have been evacuated beforehand. No Russians harmed, presumably as they had advance notice. No coalition casualties. No strikes on Russian hardware.

It's a limited strike that appears to be a one time hit that has allowed the West to state that Chemical weapon use is beyond the pale. So we in the West save face by upholding the red lines of chemical weapons use.

It's allowed Russia to issue a strongly worded condemnation, whilst still controlling Syria, so they can look strong.

As long as Assad doesn't use chemical weapons again (which would be a direct challenge to the West) then this recent flare up is over. Presumably Putin will be telling his ally that it is not worth using these weapons as the cost to his regime is too high.

Yup bet Theresa is already on phone to trump begging to talk trade.

Thank God for this post.

Those of you saying this is nothing to get excited about, I see where you are coming from, last night’s action can be seen as a largely symbolic strike on a probably already abandoned set of targets, which everyone could see was coming.

A performance piece to satisfy home audiences.

But you have to admit, the international situation is a bit more unstable than than it has been for a while.

Not healthy.

Fully agree.

But you could argue that's because of Obama's inaction post Arab spring as much Bush's action before it.

The overreaction has been amazing to see. When people read "bomb Syria" do they imagine carpet bombing of cities? Do you think missile strikes on two chemical weapon factories and stores should cause any civilian casualties, given the Syrian government knew this was coming for at least three days?

Christ, nothing else will happen, Russia won't do anything. We bloodied Assad's nose for using banned weaponry, and rightfully so. People acting like this is Iraq 2.0 are looking for something to be outraged at, and this isn't it.

Yeah, that's a fair assessment.

If anything it was a climbdown by the US.
