Wembley - Private Ownership

Recommended Posts

England team will have to go on tour for home games as the Jaguars will have the stadium from September to January.

Seems like the Spurs stadium could potentially end up being a massive waste of money as it was built with the purpose of hosting NFL games for the next 10 years.

Fulham will stay at Craven Cottage as they've just received permission to redevelop it.

Chelsea are massively screwed though as they will now have to find a new home while Stamford Bridge is redeveloped.

Two massive arguments in favour of this.

Will mean nothing for England they will still play there and it will just be rented back to the FA for major fixtures. WIll probably mean the FA cup semis wont be held there which is good news!

Jags moving to the UK is the biggest news there, mad to think an NFL team (that are actually improving year on year) will have there home ground here.

Also means nothing to Spuirs either as they will still use that for other NFL games - people who dont watch NFL dont realise how big the sport is globally, its worth so much to everyone that gets involved with it.

Seems to show what a folly it was building it in the first place when other options were both cheaper and better for all England fans.

Feel for American Jags fans, but they're hardly the first team to relocate.

If this means England move around a bit for lesser fixtures then that can only be a good thing. Cup finals (and sadly semis) should still be there, as NFL season is usually September - February.

So much for it being the "home of football" though.

A lot of people suggesting Jags relocate.... the discussion for a while has been around having a 'London Franchise' as someone who doesn't follow the sport in great depth, would that not just be a brand new franchise added? Rather than a renaming/moving like LA Rams?

Follow England home and Away and I've always said the FA are sell outs. They overspent on the ground 10 years ago and change silly prices for Finals. Just look at the 70%(I think) increase on FA Cup final tickets this year.

It's a shame that our National Stadium, the Empire Stadium won't be ours anymore. At least England games will be on tour again around the country and maybe we will get one at Leicester?

At least the court case against Wembley FC could be dropped though?

The NFL like the symmetry of 8 divisions with 4 teams in each. A 33rd franchise would mess that up. Would make more sense that as Khan owns the Jags they would relocate to London.

The old Wembley was originally known as the Empire Stadium

From wiki - The Empire Stadium was built in exactly 300 days at the cost of £750,000. Described as the world's greatest sporting arena, it was ready only four days before the "White Horse" Final in 1923. The FA had not considered admission by ticket, grossly underestimating the number of fans who arrived at the 104 gates on match ...

So so anti this. Should always be our national stadium. I know people aren't happy about the new Wembley having lost it's identity, but things are only going to get worse this way and it will just become another generic stadium... For a start, how long will it take for them to rename it...
