Name YOUR 23 man squad.

Recommended Posts

You're Gareth Southgate, Name your squad.

Goalkeepers:

Pickford

Butland

Pope

Defenders

Walker

Young

Rose

Maguire

Cahill

Smalling

Stones

Midfielders:

Alli

Henderson

Shelvey

Milner (if he can be tempted out of retirement then drop Wilshere)

Wilshere (IF Milner does not come out of retirement)

Sterling

Loftus-Cheek

Dier

Sessegnon

Lingard

Strikers:

Kane

Vardy

Rashford

Defoe

Few notes: Really struggled to find a position for Caroll and Wilshere simply because we have Kane already so do we really need 2 tall strikers especially as carroll is slow, Kane can do everything Carroll can and more.

Defoe is probably just a bit of nostalgia but he still knows where the goal is and has impeccable positioning (plus our other strikers are bang average after the main 3)

Wildcard would be Sessegnon, England has not seen a talent this good at such a young age since Rooney, deserves a call up IMO.

Who would be in your 23?

I'd leave Alli at home out of spite and leave Dier at home because he's shite,

I'd go full Mike Bassett and play 4-4-2 with Kane and Vardy up front.

Oh, and I'd take Albrighton. Name a better English winger.

I almost stuck him in the squad but as much as it pains me to say this, Lingard, Sterling, Milner if played on the wing and I would rather Choose Sessegnon for his pace and having a young fearless player in there.

Although if we plan on playing Milner in the middle or at Left back then sure I'd drop a midfielder like Dier and stick Albrighton in there.

Defoe now doesn't sometimes make the Bournemouth bench, scored about 3 all season but you've got him in the England squad?

Sessegnon is obviously a great prospect but you can't seriously take a player from that level, it's shite.

That level is shite? How many of our players played at that Level, Sessegnon is easily going to be a top 8 prem player.

Who would you take apart from Defoe? Carroll? Welbeck? 3 have 3 good strikers then a bunch of bang average ones. Defoe has been decent at Bournemouth and has been fighting off scraps this season.

Also, Albrighton should be absolutely nowhere near the squad

Why?

If your argument is he’s been bang average this season then the squad wouldn’t even make up a starting 11, let alone a full 23.

Besides, he was shockingly overlooked 2 years ago when he was in much better form than Sterling or any other winger in England. May as well use the same logic of ‘he was good 2 years ago’ now as well.

Aaron Ramsdale Keeper

Dan Jones Left-Back

Johnny Mullins Centre-Back

Michael Raynes Centre-Back

Michael Harriman  Right-Back

Harrison Dunk Left Midfield

Harry Pell  Centre Midfield

Jimmy Smith Centre Midfield

Jordan Clark Right Wing

Harry Kane Striker

Jamie Vardy Striker

I've chosen a goal oriented 4-4-2 (sans subs, coz old school) so Vardy and Kane upfront supported by League Two's most prolific own-goal scorers. Will have to confirm if Michael Harriman is free for England selection or if he's already played for RoI.

Agree 2 years ago, he deserved a chance but not now. You could argue Simpson did back then as well, but not now.

As England fans we moan about how many average players are in the squad, so why add another in Albrighton?
