And they score. 1 1. Darnell really isn't looking so good at the moment. Our left back is doing well though. Wright is looking alright but needs more time in the u23s. Who's 7? He's had some flourishes. Knight looks good as ever. I think Pasc did a goal line clearance just a minute ago. Shade is looking great. Great work for our goal and is hard working elsewhere in the pitch. He's the most exciting outfield player for me.

Sherif has put himself about a lot already, seems a good ball winner

Yeah not as good as Hamza but is looking good and definitely improved since I last watched properly.

Lovely pass from James for our goal. Shade took it with confidence. With a goal and an assist and good work elsewhere Shade definitely MOM so far.

Think Matty James looks tentative when having to do any lateral movement. Shame to see really, don’t think he has a future here anymore, a peak James would look quality in our current system I feel

He's probably not quite ready but I'd love to see Dewsbury-Hall involved with the first team at some point, a CM that can actually travel with the ball and pick a pass.

Enjoyable match that.

4th in the league. Two points off first. Or  four if Everton win their game in hand.

The team is looking good. Very good goalkeeper. Knight and Pasc are solid in defence. Darnell and Ughelumba look good at full back although Darnell no longer looks close to the first team. Ughelumba looks closer tbh. DH and Sheif looks good in midfield. Wright looks good although young. Shade looks like he could end up very good. Muskwe was quiet but I think he's recently back from injury.

Doesn't seem to be the same player since he signed his contract, I have noticed his lesser performances in a couple of games.

Noticed this too. Wonder if it's a psychological thing. Could say the same for Hamza, and probably also Vardy and Ndidi.

You can't discount grief.

Apart from Hamza, the new contracts were handed out two months before the incident.

If we're in the brave new world where we put players in the first team before loaning them out, I'm fairly worried about Knight's chances of getting in before Soyuncu, Evans, Morgan and Maguire, even in cup games.

How many of other under 18s are from Leicester(shire)?

No u23s in the cup then.

If we bring back Barnes we’ll have him, Choudhury and Chilwell in and around the first team already.

Outside of those 3 if we’re being realistic, who else can break into the first team squad? Elder seems most likely, as we’ll need a Fuchs replacement.

Our CB’s have Benkovic and Soyuncu to compete with. Eppiah seems to be always injured and we don’t know if Ndukwu will perform at the same level when he returns.

Keep the faith, like most fans I would love to see more of our u23s progress but we also need to be realistic.

TLDR: Realistic = Chilwell, Choudhury and Barnes in the first team and Elder as Fuchs replacement. Outside chance for the rest. Gerrem all out on loan!

Leicester City U23s v Everton U23s live: Match updates as Benalouane and trialist Reghba start
Updates from Holmes Park where City take on Premier League 2 leaders Everton

ByJordan Blackwell
UPDATED18:18, 7 JAN 2019

Leicester City Under-23s will hope to begin their year with a bang when they host Everton in Premier League 2 this evening (7pm kick-off).

City's youngsters ended 2018 in fine form, recording three wins on the bounce in all competitions, and a victory at Holmes Park tonight could set them up for a big 2019.

With 13 of 22 matches played, City sit fourth in the Premier League 2 table while today's visitors Everton are top. But if Steve Beaglehole's upstarts claim three points, they will cut the gap to the Toffees to one.

Everton will prove a tough opponent though, defeating City on their first away trip of the season back in August.

We will be live at Holmes Park bringing you match updates. To get in touch with your thoughts, send us a message on Facebook or Twitter.

Ali Reghba is the 19 year old Centre Forward we've got on trial from Bohemians in Ireland.  He's already done a bit for their First Team - and could be just what the Under 23's want (certainly better than Ryan Loft !).
