From the Saints forum:

"Missing out to Leicester isn't anything to be concerned about. If we missed out to Wolves, Bournemouth or Brighton it would be."

Does this mean we are massive?

These young fellas will try and tell you it's a modern slang term meaning something of excellent quality, or when applied to people, 'fit' or 'good-looking'.

However, the joke is on them because it's an old Jamaican term meaning high-quality weed. :P

Regardless of Maddison we still need more than 1 creative player!

The next move that is the most important is the Mahrez replacement!  Can see the formation being a more 4231 as I don’t think Puel really played a 5 at the back formation before? Please correct me if wrong?

Whatever you've studied about his past, he may, with a bit of luck, be one of those managers who tries to play the best formation with the players he has at his disposal. His record from Monaco , Lyon, Nice, Lille , Southampton and then us suggests no absolute fixed system , only preferences. With no valid attack at Southampton he picked a very defensive line up contrary to his previous preferred attacking style in France. We'll see what he's made of.

Just as a matter of interest though to play devils advocate, bearing in mind the negative previous comments regarding our DOF, who isn't pleased with our signings thus far? If Perreira,  Evans and Maddison fail to deliver, could we not honestly say they were all good potential signings for the money paid?  All transfers are a risk but I think these are all very reasonable attempts for different reasons. I admit to being particularly excited regarding Maddison who I believe could be a future England player. Time will tell

The way the media seem to rate him, it wouldn't surprise me if he gets a call up for the autumn internationals if he hits the ground running.

I think the opposite is true.  He is buying the right players to fit his preferred system (4-2-3-1) hence the attacking right back and no.10 but I agree that the signings we have made so far are very pleasing.  I don't think Puel is the most flexible of managers.  When he was sacked at Southampton after an 8th place finish and cup final he was asked to change his style to keep his job and refused.  I think I'd lose a bit of respect for him if he hadn't refused mind.

If our three signings so far fail to live up to expectation I won't complain about Puel, Rudkin, Macia or whoever. I believe we've signed three of the best players available to us this summer and all in positions we've been crying out for. On paper I'm 100% happy with our incomings so far and can't criticise in the slightest.

If you compare this to our business over the last few season we've had some terrible signings that looked awful buys even before they arrived here.

We were warned by CSKA and Nigeria fans about Musa being a carthorse that turned it on occasionally.

Benalouane was voted one of the worst players in Serie A.

Slimani never had a chance as he was overpriced and came here as a round peg trying to fit in a round hole.

Iborra was ageing and a reserve for Sevilla.

Managed to catch up with his first interview; really impressed with how he conveys himself when talking about the game etc. I think he could easily be one of the best signings this summer by any team. If you are yet to see it, a must watch is his free kick for Aberdeen v Rangers.

The first window since we won the PL where we're actually signing players to fit a system.

Puel getting shit done. Great signing.

Start of an exciting era imo.

Agreed there is a very methodical approach to us this year. Fixing key weaknesses in the team and squad and getting them in early so they can all work with one another during pre-season. I expect this to impact both our defensive line and our ability to go forward.

Puel was getting booed at the end of last season, and rightly so. But to be fair to him he did not have a pre-season and only made one minor signing. The club have 100% backed him with quality signings and getting deals done early. Sure we will be without Mahrez but this really will be his team playing his style of football. We've added three players who are good on the ball in key positions and one player is a known creative force.

I genuinely hope it comes off!

Excellent business by the football club.

He'll bring much needed creativity and goals to the midfield, and he's also something of a set piece specialist which we lack.
