Brentford are a strange one.. They're happy enough to follow the 'selling club' model, yet seem to end up stronger as a result of it.

As someone has said, their scouting department must be half decent !

Maybe we should be sniffing around their scouts as well as their players.

Looks good , left footed and similar in style to Maguire and Stones. could be a great partner for Johnson in th future in the current climate would be 3rd choice, a lot to pay, but his value wont go down

Hopefully we get this lad in, keep Maguire and we have a top top British back 3 with Evans as well, sadly Morgan looked very heavy legged against Lille. We have options with Johnson, Hughes & Knight to step up as & when needed....

Up the City....:scarf:

I'm going to hope that the reports we bid 10m are nothing but rubbish.

Mepham is a good promising player. Brentford are going to fancy their chances of a playoff place this year so, at this stage in the window, unless we bid a ridiculously high offer, they won't bother. It's not worth it to them. He is 20 yrs old and under contract for another four years. Unless the player demands a move and throws his toys out, then Brentford can just say he's not for sale at this point and he'll still maintain his value next summer. So it will have to take an offer that is above his value to get him.

Maybe we should have either made an offer at the start of the window or been in the running for a player who was available, like Gibson.

Indeed.

Sadly, it's the way of the world. Money does talk even if it can't buy you love. Big fishes and bigger fishes etc. We're amongst the upper tier of clubs that can consider paying £xM for a player as a 'punt' even if we do cry foul when Man City/United et al do it to us. Maybe it ain't right but what's that got to do with it?

Morning Foxes. The fee required to buy Chris Mepham is £20 million. There will be add ons to that figure, as that’s how the club operates. Is he worth it, Yes. Will the club sell for less, No. we haven’t sold a player for the last 4 years for a figure less than what has been placed on him by the club and we certainly wouldn’t with Chris. We have a very good structure in place for recruiting players which has been mentioned in another post.

Same situation as we are in with Harry except we have a lot more cash.

Exactly, which makes it weird if we would try with a 10m bid, when we know that Brentford will be asking for a huge fee.

That's why I've got to hope that the 10m bid is rubbish and actually we're in negotiations dependent on the Maguire Man U situation.
