Glad he's miserable at Man City. Finally puts a nail in the 'he's a humble guy' coffin. The bloke is an arrogant tosspot.

Good player though.

He seems a quite shy and introverted to me, he backed himself to go to a bigger club and the move hasn't worked out yet. I wish he wouldn't have thrown a mardy (twice) but the bloke's one of our best ever players and should be treated as such.

i think you need to see him next season to judge the move ……… (assuming he is still there .)

One of the best, yes. But he's definitely a an arrogant tosser.

His actions in forcing a move over two years have rendered him that in my eyes. Again. Great, great player.

Also having his car driven the ten feet to the door to be picked up so s to dodge the little kids who idolise him.

Yeah. Tosser.

Again. Great player. The two are not mutually exclusive.

Not terribly well, but observed enough to know that, post title win, his opinion of himself inflated unduly.

The measure of the man is being seen now. Wantaway from a club he forced a move to through with the most inappropriate of behaviour. And its not just the fact he wants to get game time. The article specifically mentions him making his feelings known around the training ground ; whining to colleagues. Just an arrogant tosser.

Excellent player but that should not mask his behaviour. I know it might seem bitter but I accepted long before he moved he was destined for better things. My opinion of him is nested in an observation of his behaviour.

I'm aware it seems like i hate him. I don't. He was amazing for us and played a part in the greatest season ever.

You make sense, I just wonder if he went for money or glory? Only thing he is getting is money, might get a few medals but no glory.

I think if any of us were In the same position as Riyad that summer, we’d have all done the same.

I can understand both money and glory.

I cannot accept the methods. Made an absolute mockery of the club over two years to serve himself. It isn't the mark of a humble man (the Algerians seem to really love this tag) and the co-opting depression was a poor thing to do.

Humble man......

The lad used to kick a ball around with kids around Highfields and St Matthews

I spent about 16 years kicking a ball around in Highfields ( brought up there).

Didn't stop me becoming an arrogant tosser though.

Unfortunately.

I kicked a ball around the rather affluent area of Market Bosworth. I’m a massive willy puller so there’s no logic here at all.

If you're after logic you're on a thrashing to nothing my friend.

I deal only in baseless speculation and wild conjecture.

That's the thing - you don't know that. My observations were that he's a pretty shy and understated guy who, when we started to slump after the title, was probably told by his advisers something along the lines of: "look mate, you're approaching the peak of your career and if you want to earn loads of money, win stuff and play in Europe for a top team, now's the time". The way he went about it was far from ideal but I understand why it's the course of action he chose. You could use a lot of words to describe him but I just don't think "arrogant" is one. Equally, I don't know that for sure. With regards to his behaviour, none of us know enough to judge him. (Incidentally, I think if I went from playing in Ligue 2 to winning the league, winning PFA player of the year and coming 7th in the Ballon d'Or voting, my opinion of myself would probably also inflate pretty sharply :D)

The stuff in the Mail article is, I imagine, pretty commonplace - players who want to play more games talk to their mates about wanting to play more games. The headline screams "THREATENS TO QUIT" but nothing in the body says anything to that effect and Pep says he's staying for the next few seasons at least. The "depressed" thing was something allegedly said to Sky by a friend of his, besides which it's perfectly possible for someone to feel depressed about something without professing to actually have depression, so I think it's pretty disingenuous to say he "co-opted depression".

I completely understand why you think he's a tit for the way he engineered the move but I just don't see him as being arrogant in the slightest and I don't think the media speculation is anything like an accurate portrayal of him as a person.

Well argued.

Really ? So how come Pep's not giving a lot of game time ?

Admittedly he was one of our better players, but "great, great" ? I don't think so.

Let's face it, tossing is endemic to the human experience...

One of the few activities that crosses the social divide.

The thing is your opinion is pure speculation as well.
