The Waking Up series from Sam Harris is one of the most interesting I have listened to..

https://samharris.org/podcast/

He is known as one of the "radical atheist" folk as he is pals with Dawkins and has written some anti-religious books but his podcasts cover wide ranging topics.  I like him for two reasons..... firstly he is smart and has smart guests and they discuss issues I can just about grasp but not fully understand (A.I., the human mind, free speech, politics, religion, the nature of consciousness, etc).  Secondly I like to listen because on some points I disagree with him and I like to listen to people I disagree with.  In the main his views seem to align with mine but he certainly has some views I do not agree with (he is not anti gun, some of his politics are more to the right than me, very strong views on "identity politics" that are challenging to an old lefty like me).

Anyhoo, worth a listen if you have the time.  X

I like Hardtalk generally, I know it's a TV show but the episodes are on the podcast app and it's good to hear politicians from all over the world being grilled on the domestic and international issues that are affecting their country.

The Hurricane Tapes on BBC Sounds is very good. It's about the boxer Rubin Carter who was accused of a triple murder in the 1960's. Fascinating story.

The Peacock and Gamble Fubar Podcast is great. Funny, long, and their interaction has improved over the years in my opinion. If you like this, the great thing is it will open the door to their large back catalogue of podcasts from different iterations which will keep you going for ages. Which leads me to...

The Parapod. Ray Peacock (off of Peacock and Gamble) and Barry Dodds discuss paranormal stories. Ray is the questioning sceptic and Barry the excitable fool. Quite a bit like the parts of the old Ricky Gervais podcasts when Karl Pilkington used to tell his far-fetched stories, although with less bullying. Really picks up in season 2 - Barry's manic laugh is amazing.

Off Menu Podcast. Ed Gamble (off of Peacock and Gamble) and James Acaster invite a guest on to discuss their dream meal, choosing a starter, main, side, and dessert. It's a fun concept to think about and the reasons each guest gives are often interesting and/or amusing.

Beef & Dairy Network Podcast. A scripted show performed like it's actually an informational podcast centred around the Beef & Dairy industry. A bit different, but worth persevering with for a few episodes to see if it sticks.

The Horne Section Podcast. An absolute must if you like Alex Horne's shtick on Taskmaster. He performs musical comedy with his band and involves a new guest each week. Much funnier and more entertaining than that description sounds. If you don't have the Thick & Creamy song stuck in your head after a few listens there is something wrong with you.

The wounded man looks up through his one dying eye. Says, “Why did you bring him in here for? He ain't the guy!”

Very moving song so this should be worth a listen to hear the finer details.

Been some great and some crap episodes of this. Loved the Tom Kerridge and Phil Wang ones.

James Acaster is slowly starting to sound like an impression of himself though, hope he doesn't disappear too far down that hole.

I don't like Richard Herring, for some reason he annoys me inherently – but he definitely gets good value out of 99/100 people he has on and it makes his podcast really worthwhile. Great host.

Can anyone recommend any politics podcasts that aren’t boring as fvck but are still quite informative?

I listen to the James O'Brien podcast (surprise surprise) on Google podcasts. It's basically his LBC show without adverts and the news every few minutes. I also listen to farages podcast which is insane because people actually believe what he says.

Elis James and John Robins' Podcast is the only thing that gets me through my Monday morning commute - so funny.

My Dad wrote a porno is a great podcast as well very funny.

Thinking about getting into Audiobooks for my drive into work - does anyone have a website to get them through Audioable seems ok but its quite expensive..... Is there any way to get some freebies?!

BorrowBox. Join you’re local library and you’ll get a pin, use that to login in and access audio books, ebooks etc. All free.

Also bbc iPlayer radio, drama, books, documentaries, comedy including classics like Alan partridge, Hancock, steptoe, plus more recent stuff including satirical comedy etc...

Shagged, married annoyed is a great pod cast with Rosie and Chris Ramsey

Gutted Ellis James and Jon Robbins have finished on Radio X but they are moving to Five Live so guessing their show will be similar and they will do a pod cast with it.

Also if you're interested my brother and his friend have just started a pod cast called 'Bottom of the Stream' reviewing the lowest rated films on Netflix.
