Try and put a few barriers in place to break the habit, maybe even self exclude for a period of time if you don't feel ready to commit to it permanently.

Sorry to hear this.

One thing I would advise people struggling to stop betting is trying to go cash only for a while. If you have to physically go to a bookies or casino to place bets it is a lot more effort and you might find this can assist you in being more disciplined.
When it’s online, money can feel less real and more disposable.

If you can’t go cash only then contact your bank and get them to block gambling transactions. Almost all banks comply with this now.

Gambling firm Betway hit with record £11.6m penalty
9 minutes ago

Online betting firm Betway has been hit with a record penalty of £11.6m for failings over customer protection and money-laundering checks.

The Gambling Commission said Betway failed to check the source of funds of one customer who deposited over £8m and lost over £4m in a four-year period.

It also failed to effectively interact with a customer who deposited and lost £187,000 in two days.

The penalty package is the biggest to date faced by a UK gambling firm.

The Gambling Commission's investigation said the failings were linked to dealings with seven of Betway's high-spending customers.

Gambling links with football have 'gone too far'

Gambling on credit cards to be banned

It said that "as a result of a lack of consideration of individual customers affordability and source of funds checks, the operator allowed £5.8m of money to flow through the business which has been found, or could reasonably be suspected to be, proceeds of crime".

The commission said the investigation had also revealed "inadequate management oversight", adding that a probe "into responsible Personal Management Licence holders" was continuing.

"The actions of Betway suggest there was little regard for the welfare of its VIP customers or the impact on those around them," said Richard Watson, executive director at the Gambling Commission.

"As part of our ongoing programme of work to make gambling safer, we are pushing the industry to make rapid progress on the areas that we consider will have the most significant impact to protect consumers," he added.

"The treatment and handling of high-value customers is a significant piece of that work and operators are in no doubt about the need to tackle the issue at speed."

I signed up to Gamcare a long while ago and it is the best thing I have done. I haven't gambled since December, nothing at all, and I couldn't feel any better. I feel that in this current coronavirus climate, I can see a surge in online casino gambling, so anyone reading this, I urge you to take care and take considerations.

I hope the cancelling of all sporting events bring bookies to their knees and shut them down, sadly they will just resort to even more despicable tactics in getting problem gamblers to keep losing everything they've got with numerous free offers in their heavily rigged online casinos. I really fear for this element of people's safety during this crisis, there will be a spike in it i'm sure.

Unfortunately they seem to have started spamming even more via Text and Email. This is even for accounts that I’ve suspended or put on deposit limits of zero on.

I just hope that the boredom of self-isolation and possible money worries doesn’t drive people to the online casino games.

Yeah please don't be tempted on to the online casinos out of boredom, they're designed to keep you ticking over with free chips and before you know it they'll drain your bank account.

I haven't played them for years but in the past I found them unbelievably corrupt and things I saw happening were bordering on statistically nearly impossible to happen even as a one off, let alone the numerous times I witnessed them.

Bang on, I lost 11k in 15 minutes and it honestly could have killed me. Despicable places for compulsive gamblers and yet recreational and occasional gamblers are likely to go nowhere near them. Designed purely to purge the problem gamblers like myself. I spotted Leicestershire Live were promoting some heinous promotion from one of them yesterday on twitter, makes me sick.

Would rather gamble on doing the Euromillions, Lotto or Set For Life lottery number games.

As at least any money lost* goes towards meaningful projects in what National Lottery.organations provides through England etc.

*If you use the National Lottery website to have a go and their mentioned games above or other ones they have, they offer very good online gambling limits advice and you can also set your limits with using their choices of online games.

-

Hope, when all the sports are allowed to continue again, especially in football, that its authority bodies clamp down on betting company involvement to some degree - for the best interests of sports in general.

Maybe this post would be better in the betting thread?

Not a having a go as I see your point but I think it would just be best to keep in here clear of any form of gambling recommendations.
