Maguire to Man Utd / Man City

Not really. Harry is nowhere near where VVD was when he was at Southampton, nor as ridiculously hyped as Stones when he was at Everton.

Doesn`t mean we shouldn't hold out for the 75m + you mentioned, it just has nothing to do with ability.

Surely he's even more hyped than Stones was, after World Cup Slabhead Mania? That's part of what's contributed to his price tag.

You may be right, but a whole season of listening to "New Maldini" type crap from the media with regards to Stones was tiring, far more so than a summer of over-excitement.

Partly down to ability but more importantly to do with supply and demand. We can supply a homegrown defender and demand as much as we want for him.

Think he is 'hyped' because all these nob heads keep printing stories about him and clubs like Man Utd and Man City are supposedly bidding for him.

If they want him they can pay what we demand, else they can do one. We don't need to sell anyone and shouldn't be bullied by these clubs or players/agents. If they are in contract they are our players until someone pays the money we ask for!

The Wan Bissaka transfer has probably re-calibrated the transfer market for English defenders

Apparently Wan Bissaka is a record fee. For a specialist full back. Whatever the **** that is...

If wan bissaka is worth 50 based on one promising season, harry must be worth 70 plus a player/add ons easy

Same mad price we would command for Chilwell or Maddison though. In fact at least Chilwell has done well for the senior England side but Wan-Bissaka and Maddison have had only 1 decent season in the Prem and done very little for the U21 side yet would or are commanding £50m +

The waters not even been tested yet. As soon as teams start missing out on top targets I guarantee not just Harry but our other young stars will be targeted with crazy deals on offer.

Its going to be a bumpy ride and I hope we are willing to hold out. If we can get YT over the line before silly season we will be in a great position.

Please Sir John of the Rudkins, by the first week of july sign YT and a striker, a winger if you have the time.... then pop the out of office on and head to SE Asia for a month to find yourself. Do you think we can start a go fund me to pay for his trip?

Strange. Always envisaged you as the Laird in your Scottish castle Rumble :)

In Paisley? It's more likely to be a hut made from empty Tennants lager cans, roofed with Domino's pizza boxes and insulated with heroin stained tinfoil!

(Just joking Rumble)

Well that’s it, we will say AWB went for £50m after one season in the prem and no senior caps. Chilwell will end up going for more than Maguire. But people need to realise that Maguire won’t be leaving unless clubs match our valuation.

If the global TV revenue stops increasing at an astronomic rate, until then no chance.

Agree to a large extent.

But don't understand, really, of those who complain about Sky (for example) 'controlling' the game - why they still subscribe to them (although I do agree with their negative stance against the company and BT)?..

It's as if customers are 'feeding the troll more' in this instance.

The company has partially ruined the game, never mind the money it sends to clubs etc, and there appears to be no stop to them sadly.

It sort of is, just not by much and it is not having much effect on ridiculous spending yet

It's the overseas revenue that's gone whacky over recent years as well. It surely will change at some point, all these other sources trying to get in on the act pose a dilemma. Do Sky and BT, the main two keep paying more and more or do they use the increase in different platforms as a way of driving the price down by changing how they broadcast. I can't believe that in 10-15 years these historic subscriptions will remain the same, things are becoming more tailored and customised. More choice.

Club are doing well here, they've set a (rough) price and won't entertain anything below it. Seems to be a united front from the usual journos on our side as well which helps.

Seems we've finally learnt our lesson.

Think the loss of Kante for a relative pittance has hardened the stance and quite rightly, too. We should let players go for our value, not the buying club's.

that was a few years ago before the recent tv money explosion.

There was still no precedent for English defenders being worth that, before about three hours ago. The money also hasn’t gone up that much... and that doesn’t really matter about state run clubs!
