Woeful. Would any other City allow this to happen?

It’s not 1932 in the USSR, it’s private property and the mural is supposedly going to be recreated in the city centre. There was a Merc article on a few weeks ago

Disgusting.

You can't just relocate original and spontaneous work like that.

I don't want to sound too dramatic but I hope they make a statement saying why they've done it because this mural meant a lot to a lot of people.

They already have, building is being converted into something else.

the new bloke who now owns the building has done this. nothing to do with Mark @Marks Electrical

“I used to share a box at Leicester City with Mark Smithson so I care about this, and Mark is happy as long as he sees it go back up somewhere.

So why does it need to be Grey? I am not sure why the exterior needed changing.

It's being converted into loads of flats and shops, so would expect to see doors and windows etc appearing in the wall.

The building it was on had changed hands and is being developed, so the artwork couldn't stay. All parties involved wanted it to remain, so the original artist has been recommissioned to reproduce it in a different location (probably within the city center) where it can be better appreciated. They're just trying to find the right location for it before starting work.

Stop with the knee-jerk reactions.

Surely someone could've let the fans know it was going to be done today , so fans could've got a last look over the weekend, maybe took a few pictures with it  ? Nothing knee-jerk about being gutted we are now without it and disappointed its happened .

Just feel sorry for the guy that spent so much time on that masterpiece.

Don't feel too bad... he's getting paid £10-£15k to re-do it somewhere else and made a career from doing it. He's laughing.

Like a massive article in the mercury saying it could be painted over soon?

The artist knows all about it and has offered to do it again in a more prominent/visible site in the City Centre.

The grey-paint ogre is happy to pay him for doing it and is also paying his hotel bills etc while he completes it. So maybe he's not such an ogre after all eh?

Maybe a moment's reflection/research would have told you this before comments along the 'What the feck!' lines were made...
