His decision making and positioning must improve. He'll come good though. Hopefully. Yeah, thankfully our wide options are that mediocre in comparison to other parts of our team that Barnes will get chance after chance to improve, as I've said he's better than Gray, more of a goal threat than Albrighton and Perez is still massively finding his feet and role in this team. Barnes is an impact player and I'm waiting for the complete performance from him. He'll get there.

I like the fact he is direct, quick enough and has shown (albeit elsewhere) that he knows where the net is. Still expect him to improve to the extent where he is deemed a good Premier league player, but our wide options are our weak link, and not sure Barnes has come in and made that place his own, yet. Nailed it with this post.
Nicolo Barella 2,665 Posted 19 October 2019 Report Share Posted 19 October 2019 Whilst he tends to not impose himself and have imperious performances from the wing, he still has a decent end product - 4 goal contributions in 9 games (only starting 5 as well) is very good and if he continues this rate of return it will see him on roughly 15 G+A come the end of the season which is very decent, especially considering he's more of a central player than a wide player.

For a young player who has not yet played a full Premier League season, he's doing well. Whilst he was in and out of the game today, the moment of quality he produced for the cross was first class, and honestly the goal at the stroke of half time probably got us the win today, the perfect time to score! It will be interesting to see what his upper limit is. Is he a 5 goals and 5 assists a season player, or can he even get up to 10 of each to truly be top class? Perhaps he's somewhere in between? As it stands he's a great squad player to have who has made several highly positive impacts this season. And that he's a Leicester fan is a real plus too. A very likable person and player! Also LOL at anyone who doesn't take them too seriously to put themselves up for a picture like this!

I think he could get 10 G and 10 A in a full season if he started every game on the wing in Rodgers' system, but I also personally don't think he'll ever fully adapt to the wing - he'll never look "good" playing there. If we ever figure out how to play 4-3-1-2, though, I think he'll have a much better time either as the 10 or a second striker.

Some more angles of it here. Brilliant play I have to say, I had a great view of it from my seat and it was top class I thought. https://streamja.com/pbaK
rachhere 1,875 Posted 19 October 2019 Report Share Posted 19 October 2019 He did good today. Still just not working with him and Ben though - and considering how many years they have been working together, not sure how much faith I have that it will change .
st albans fox 8,310 Posted 19 October 2019 Report Share Posted 19 October 2019 He needs a bit of confidence to go with his first instinct and not dither with the decision.
UniFox21 7,341 Posted 19 October 2019 Report Share Posted 19 October 2019 Great cross, even better with that being his weaker foot. 28 minutes ago, rachhere said: He did good today. Thought they linked up well at times, the system of the centre mid coming wide and Barnes drifting inside doesn't suit Chilwell for me.
Shane 1,382 Posted 19 October 2019 Report Share Posted 19 October 2019 According to google, he has been accredited with the assist for the 2nd goal. If so, it's a lucky assist however... If my Maths is correct, Harvey is averaging a goal or assist every 102 minutes in the PL.
Ric Flair 20,427 Posted 19 October 2019 Report Share Posted 19 October 2019 His best assist to date, on his weaker foot but the general play to create the opening was impressive. As someone else mentioned, it was crucial for us to score before half time otherwise the win would have been very hard to achieve. He's ticking along nicely, not absolutely ripping it up but more than made his mark at this level and will continue to get better.
Guesty 334 Posted 19 October 2019 Report Share Posted 19 October 2019 Wish he could get on the same wavelength as Chilwell. Sometimes it's almost like they've never played together before. Chilwell took a lot of critisim around me today in the first half, but Barnes was so far forward it wasn't a good pass - Tielemans and Maddison had to start dropping into the gap between them. Hope it clicks soon. It could be the making of both of them

Collymore 3,708 Posted 20 October 2019 Report Share Posted 20 October 2019 Probably the best cross we will see all season from Barnes. The last person I remember who put balls in like that was Guppy back in the day...
Babylon 28,532 Posted 20 October 2019 Report Share Posted 20 October 2019 Great cross... but have to say he was poor again in general. His runs and positioning have me pulling my hair out. Really not happy with both wide players at the moment.
sdb 2,609 Posted 20 October 2019 Report Share Posted 20 October 2019 He looks so low on confidence to me. Turning backwards and jogging inside with his head down all the time. Frustrating, because everytime he looks to make something happen, or take someone on, he looks so dangerous. Hopefully the assist gives him a little more self belief.

Stadt 12,944 Posted 23 October 2019 Report Share Posted 23 October 2019 Including the goal against Wolves (which was was given as an OG but it should have been Barnes') he's basically bang on 0.5 G+A p90 in his time in the PL. He's quietly really productive and against Burnley he was drifting into some dangerous central positions. I'm convinced he's going to nuclear at some point and start bagging LRAC

There's definitely room for improvement, but in the first half he attempted more than a few runs in behind the defense which would've put him in a similar position to when he made his cross, but the through ball or ball over the top never came and Chilwell just kept passing it back and forth to Soyuncu instead. After a while he gives up making those runs as he doesn't get any of the right service, and looks ineffective as a result. Our left side just don't seem to be in sync with each other at all and they're both looking poor because of it. Edited 23 October 2019 by Xen

He spends too much time drifting inside, rarely makes runs that actually pull players out of the space for Chilwell to go into (not that he'd do much with it as his final ball is garbage). And those runs you talk about are often not really the right areas IMO or too late. So often it needed him to make a run wide to create space, but he was too central and it all gets too condensed. He's got the nuts and bolts of a good player, I like him don't get me wrong. But as a pair it doesn't function and that's on Barnes as much as it's on Chilwell. This is why I'd like to see him played right wing for a bit and see if he has more of an impact on the game. He's clearly talented but given Chilwell is a problem going forward as is the whole left side, we should try other options.
