2019/20 Under 23's, U19's, Development ... thread

Anyone know with these signings if BR wants to set up the U23s exactly the same as the senior team in terms of formations and playing style?

From a lack of forward options to Eppiah, Regbha and Hirst! Our other attacking options are pretty decent too with Arlott-John, Ndukwu, Tee, Muskwe & Shade. Maybe Pennant might even be fast forwarded to the u23s later on in the season.

Obviously would prefer the older lads like Eppiah, Muskwe and Ndukwu to be out on loan, but on paper we have a lot of attacking options.

Maybe we won’t have to rely on goals from our CB’s and lumping it to Loft lol

On a side note - any updates on how Eppiah is progressing with his recovery from injury?

Leyton Ndukwu has gone to Évian with the first team. He’s an interesting one to keep an eye on. Brendan loves finding a protege and bringing him through as his boy. Leyton could be a surprise first team player this season.

Got the natural talent but to excel under Rodgers his aggressiveness and work ethic would need to improve ten fold, would love to see it happen though as he has it there for him. Left footed right winger who is sublime on the ball.

Looks like Elder, Knight, Thomas, Muskwe and Ndukwu are out there. Theres likely to be a few others.. Darnell Johnson? Elliott Moore? Johansson? What about the 3 new U23 signings?

I’ve also seen Johansson, Iversen and Hirst in Evian pics.

Eppiah isn’t there.

Not sure what a 'lead coach' is and where they fit in the coaching hierarchy, but it might be a step up from his role with us, a role he perhaps didn't see himself getting here. I'm hoping it's not too much of a worrying development. Also, with the new training ground on the horizon, I'd hope everything would be pointing towards developing an elite academy to go along with it, including coaches and support staff.

Incidentally, apparently our very own Eric Odhiambo is a part-time academy coach with us (although the site appears to have spelt his name incorrectly)! Who knew?!

Head of Academy Coaching > Lead Coach of an Academy phase > Lead Coach of Age Academy group > Part time Academy coach > Part time shadow coach

Eric is a part time academy coach, he helps coach the U10's. He is a great guy, & a very good coach!

Surprised Tavares isnt with the first team. Thought BR took a liking, can't hurt his development.

It looks like only the most senior in age and experience of academy players have gone to France with the first team, in fact I don't think any of them are still teenagers! Tavares, Luke Thomas, Pennant, Wright, Russ and Arlott-John seem to have been left to train with the other aged categories.

It’s a shame, but the u23s need a DM to replace Sherif who got released.

I can see Tavares being used in that role. Personally i’d prefer to see him developing as a number 8 because of his dribbling ability, however I assume Brendan likes the idea of a technical DM that can control the play.

The U23 have lost 8-0 to Lincoln City in a closed door game.

Whoever is in charge of our team - bin them urgently and appoint Filbert as caretaker.

Another season of Beagleball, will do well to stay up given how last season ended

We were playing with about five 17 and 18 year olds last season to be fair.

Isn't that the aim though instead of persisting with rubbish like Ryan Loft.

Anyone decent needs to be out on loan by the age of 19, see if they improve as a player on their return. For example Dewsbury-Hall has spent the last 3-4 years at the same level, he won't become of anything as he's just seen as an u23 player with no intention of giving him any league experience.

It was great to Eric's name his name pop up after all this time. Glad he's well thought of as a coach. I could've sworn he made a first team appearance for us but Wikipedia says otherwise :dunno:
