It was great to Eric's name his name pop up after all this time. Glad he's well thought of as a coach. I could've sworn he made a first team appearance for us but Wikipedia says otherwise :dunno:

Think Wiki only shows league appearances.

Sure he came on at home to Villa in the League Cup but could be wrong.

A good chance for BR to bring in some Silverware.  The quadruple is on.

The first under 23's team to get to the final will be the end of this experiment. The league teams would understandably be fuming. Especially if a few older lads get chucked in at the latter stages.

How's the squad shaping up for this year? Great to see some of the older youth over with the first team squad in Evian. Hopefully the likes of Tavares and Dewsbury-Hall shine in the U23s this season, but be curious to hear if any of them are expected out on loan instead.

Lamine Kaba Sherif has signed for League 2 outfit Accrington Stanley on a free transfer.

Good luck to him

Reghba started yesterday for Republic of Ireland at the Euro u19s.

Lukas Husek who is a CB for the u18s is at the same tournament with Czech Republic.

Unfortunate that Moore did not want to stay one more year in Leuven. Going into the last year of his contract and back playing in the U23, what's the point? Maybe he just wanted to be back in the UK, who knows...

Poor old Ndukwu - forever in the children's team, getting injured and not being given a chance to actually improve and play against grown men. He is 21 in September. Considering Lashabela is 19 and in the first team, makes you think.

Such a shame he suffered that long term injury. He just didn’t look the same player when he came back.

Don’t want to write the lad off, because before the injury he looked ready to make the step up. In hindsight we should have just gave the opportunities Diabate got in the first team to Ndukwu instead of leaving him to rot in the u23s.

At this moment in time it would be best for both parties if he went out on loan.

Which players do we think will go out on loan this season?

Any rumblings?

Moore

DJ

Hughes

Elder

Knight

Pascanu

Dewsbury-Hall

Iversen

Be good to get as many of these lads playing League One/Championship football as possible, see if any are likely to cut it in the Premier League.

I hope at minimum Ughelumba, Knight, and Pascanu. Pascanu because he's too good to rot in the U23s, Knight because is he steps up be could be a great squad player who can play CB, DM, and RB, and Ughelumba because if he steps up be could seamlessly replace Fuchs as the backup LB.

New faces for U23s

U23s lost 1-0 to Hednesford Town last night (July 19)

A few interesting names in the starting XI:

  • Mitch Clark - right-back just signed from Aston Villa
  • Callum Nicell - highly-rated Leeds United midfielder who's under contract with them for another year
  • Adam Lovatt - Hastings United midfielder, was on trial with us at the back end of last season
  • Omar Mussa - Belgian youth international just left Walsall due to relegation

Several players left out that could be involved v Cheltenham today: Daley-Campbell, Johnson, Knight, Dewsbury-Hall, Wright, Leshabela, Ndukwu, Hirst.

Thanks for the write-up. Annoying the game isn't featured on our Twitter.

Elliot Moore was the captain I see. And we have a new Mus(s)a! Not sure why Luke Thomas was a sub. He looks solid.

Leeds United have granted permission for Callum Nicell to head to Leicester City and undergo a trial, Football Insider understands.

The United midfielder, 19, made an appearance for a Leicester City XI, made up of their Under-23s players, against Hednesford Town on Friday night.

A Leeds source has told Football Insider that Nicell is at the Premier League club with a view to a transfer after being given the green light to move before the window shuts.

The Republic of Ireland youth international has entered the final year of his Leeds contract, which is a two-year deal signed in September of 2018.

He is yet to make the first-team breakthrough at Elland Road despite Marcelo Bielsa fast-tracking multiple teenagers into the first-team set-up since taking charge last year.

Nicell has yet to appear in any of Leeds’ pre-season fixtures and was not selected for the tour of Australia even though the internationals and new signings were left behind at Thorp Arch to work on their fitness.

Capped by Republic of Ireland at Under-18 and Under-19 level, the midfielder could now be set for a step up to the Premier League.

Nicell played a key role in the Leeds Under-23s side that lifted the Professional Development League 2 title last season under Carlos Corberan, after stepping up from the Under-18s.

Perfect signing for OHL, maybe we can pick him up in 12 months.
