dyanmark 108 Report post Posted 10 October Hes a strong lad Dennis took that tackle from the spurs player and got up and got on with it. - Madders would still be rolling around now. Look good

Look good He's definitely strong and not afraid of a tackle, Just what we need in the midfield, As it's not really Madders or Youri's best assets. Which is why I'd keep him in the team. Winchesterfox 253 Report post Posted 13 October Praet is the latest City player to win his first international cap while playing for us. That has to help us recruit the next wave of talented young players. Come here, get game time with a good side, step up a level and play for your country. I know Belgium have a ridiculous wealth of talent in some parts of the pitch, but if that's true it's incredible. I'm also shocked at how few games Tielemans had played for the national side given he was their boy wonder from 16 onwards.
The whole world smiles 3,349 Report post Posted 13 October It's early days but from what I've seen from him so far he would be a nailed on starter for England if he was English. What a squad the Belgium's have.
Dan LCFC 9,783 Report post Posted 14 October I've got this sneaky feeling Praet will be here years. So early to say it I know but he just seems the type, the level headed, under the radar kind of player that isn't going to grab the headlines but will keep the team ticking. Bit like an Albrighton, Fuchs type of player.

Fair point, I did mean full debut. He's played more minutes for Belgium in one match since joining us than in the last five years playing for other clubs.

So early to say it I know but he just seems the type, the level headed, under the radar kind of player that isn't going to grab the headlines but will keep the team ticking. Bit like an Albrighton, Fuchs type of player. I get that feeling too. I think our club is following the same "model" as a few other progressive European clubs that aren't quite at the top table like Monaco, Dortmund and Ajax. These teams find promising young players and develop them to make lots of money, but also reinvest some of that money into "solid pros" that keep the club ticking over. When Monaco got to the Champions League semi-finals they had Fabinho, Mbappe, Bernardo Silva and Lemar but that team also had Moutinho in midfield, Kamil Glik at CB, Subasic in goal and Falcao up front who all provided experience and helped develop the young players. Ajax were brilliant last season with De Jong and De Ligt going for huge fees, but it was players like Blind, Tadic and Ziyech that kept it all together. At Leicester we currently have lots of great young players, but also have the balance of Kasper, Vardy and Evans which is one of the reasons why I feel we really do have a chance of a top 4 spot this season. It's inevitable that Maddison and Tielemans end up leaving at some point IMO given their ages and potential, but Praet is a very good player who could easily replace either of those two. This is probably why he was given a 5 year deal - he's probably expected to be here for all of it! We need proven stalwarts to be in and around the team whilst we sign unproven players with high potential to compliment them. He's definitely one that went under the radar though, as he's got the look of a player that could play for Spurs / Arsenal / Chelsea / Man U, or at least be a valuable squad player. His fundamentals are great and I think he will help other players in the team like Hamza develop just by playing with Praet every day in training.

HighPeakFox 7,057 Report post Posted 14 October Absolutely agree with all the positive stuff about Dennis P. I reckon he's an awful lot better than your average 'solid pro'.
Ric Flair 12,519 Report post Posted 14 October Although he hasn't scored many goals since leaving Anderlecht, if he rediscovered that ability then he could be frighteningly good. I do like the Belgian link we now have, what with Top owning Leuven, getting Ndidi before any other top level team did and us having Anderlechts best two youth products in recent years it is a trend that we should keep pursuing.

Exactly. Belgium as a nation have really stepped up a level (or three) over the past few years, and we've positioned ourselves very well to try and take advantage of that. There's an awful lot of talent coming out of their leagues. Hopefully OH Leuven can get promoted and we can develop a clear pathway (mutually beneficial of course) to develop top talent in both countries, as well as being a strong candidate for any Belgian or Belgium-based players to come to in order to progress their careers. Exciting if it pays off.

I can't even think of a player in our country that this would be on a par with, won their domestic division player of the year and numerous other domestic accolades and trophies and then moved to Serie A where he's been described as one of the best midfielders in the whole league by his manager and yet up until this week had never made a start for his national team?
