Watford 2-0 Post Match Thread

Recommended Posts

Our attack was a bit blunt but defensively we barely gave them a sniff, with Evans just shading Ndidi for man of the match. While others looked a bit leggy and lightweight, those two were as strong and resolute as ever. Hats off also to Fuchs who dealt well with Sarr, their only threat.

Justin’s effervescent cameo was just what we needed at that time in the match - he was outstanding.

Like Nacho on Sunday, Rodgers keeps pulling these rabbits out of the hat; we should call him The Magician.

Three more valuable points. On to the next one...

Looked very tired there - we need to do a bit more rotation. JJ with a great premier league debut, and steady from Hamza - who says we don’t have depth. I think before we have only played him on the right? He looked more assured on the left to me. Hopefully Gray will be fit for Sunday.

Justin played all of last season on the left for Luton.

Yeah, so makes sense of that’s more comfortable for him. I think he’s meant to personally prefer the right though?

After a pretty gruelling match against Everton, I thought we did well. Ndidi excellent. JJ - great debut. All in all, very happy, and it was the exact same score when we beat Twatford in the very first League game at the KP (or the Alliance Leicester Stadium, as it was then). Onto Villa...

Shit viewing but great to keep the winning run going. Not sure why var didn’t give the first penalty for vardy was clear to see in the stadium, more of a penalty than the second one that was actually given.

They made life difficult for us tonight, but it was an impressive win because of this... Watford May be poor this season but it doesn’t mean they will lose 8-0 every week, you can expect dips in performances every so often, but the fact we keep on winning is key. They tried to put us off with bullish tactics, time wasting and lofting the ball to Deeney. They’re clearly a team in panic mode and as long as we were patient we would find something, good teams find ways to win, and we did that today. On to the next one.

We are going to have to get used to teams parking the bus against us, and having difficult first halfs.

The evidence so far suggests tho, that Bredan takes the first half performance and works out exactly how we're going to break them down in the second half and puts it into action.

You can't ask for more.

Hopefully it might make teams think twice about taking this approach with us. I think there's been some tactical naivety from the opposition in thinking that as soon as teams start to drop deep against us again we will have no options.

Gone are the days where we are relying on Vardy getting space in behind (and that was exaggerated way too much anyway). The patient build up requires equally as much patience from the fans watching when the opposition are so defensive BUT we are finding that end product.

The Villa game will open up alot for us because they'll wanna have a go. I think the Norwich game will be very similar to this one though.

Look at those subs

Look at that game management

The future is so bright.

Subs? We have subs? But Paul Merson says we only have 11 players and they will get tired so we wont be anywhere near the title. And there was me thinking pundits are always right. Hmmmm

Make no bones about it, we are the real deal. This is the best young side we’ve possibly ever had.

At no point whatsoever tonight did I think we’d do anything other than win. It was a matter of time.

I felt the same against Brighton and Arsenal. Even against Everton I felt we would win. I've never ever felt this about any City side.

You've got to wonder if Perez might have to make way next match. I like him but he misses so many good chances.

In fairness, our other option on the right wing is Demarai Gray, renowned clinical finisher and non-skier of chances.

At least Perez finds good positions a lot, even if he is not a consistent finisher, so he tends to get quite a few good chances. I agree though it wasn't a fantastic showing from him.

Don't get this tired stuff, Liverpool rarely change there team, play much more intense football and play more matches and they seemed perfectly energetic tonight.

Perez looked like he lacked confidence.  Tielemens was not on form.  Other then Justin none of the subs really made an impact.

Overall though a good win with clean sheet

Liverpool scout and buy players with the express view that they have ridiculously high stamina. (Also they're probably on the juice )

No issue with teams playing defensive football. Issue with teams moaning every decision, constantly harassing the referee, and their tactics consisting of launching it to their quickest player.

For years, we’ve had a guy behind us who moans like rotten. He was at again yesterday when Justin came on he never blew a blood vessel. In reality it secured us the game. Great sub.

As of Pawson, penalty decision withstanding - his use of the yellow card was incredibly inconsistent, failed to go back and book players for late challenges

We're not going to play our best every game, look at the start of the season, quite a few of those games we had to grind out a result. I think with the intensity we try and play there are going to be games where the players look tired and try to conserve energy.

Seriously, though; legit win. Lost to a better side, particularly in the second half. You should have had a penalty in the first. Can we be saved? Whoever gets the job has their work cut out.
