BigGibbo 64 Posted 26 November 2020 Report Share Posted 26 November 2020 Fair play. Only got 20 mins at RM but it was enough. Now stop playing him at wing back and making him look bad.
davieG 17,068 Posted 29 November 2020 Report Share Posted 29 November 2020 https://www.footballfancast.com/aston-villa-news/aston-villa-marc-albrighton-premier-league-leicester-paul-lambert-news Ex-Aston Villa starlet Marc Albrighton still proving the club wrong by Vijievan JeevathayalanshareFacebook Twitter Pocket Pocket Pocket Addthis Whilst Marc Albrighton may never have been the most high-profile of players in his time at Aston Villa, the club’s academy product did end up making over 100 appearances for them. The winger notched nine goals and provided a further 19 assists, including scoring the Premier League’s 20,000th goal when he netted against Arsenal in 2011. And whilst he was never the star of the show at Villa Park, it was still somewhat of a surprise when the club opted to release him in the summer of 2014 back when Paul Lambert was still in charge. Since then, Albrighton has opened up on how his departure came about, and it’s clear there’s still a strong level of disbelief and disappointment at the way things turned out. He said: “Two days after the season finished, my agent phoned me and said ‘There’s nothing on the table from Villa’. So I said, ‘What do you mean there’s nothing?’ “He was like ‘There’s literally not an offer, there’s not an offer there. You’ve got to go to another club. In my head, definitely naively, I trusted everything that they said. I don’t know whose decision it was, I still don’t know now. “In my head it was, ‘Yeah my contract’s sorted, he said it would be sorted towards the end of the season, keep playing your football, keep doing what you’re doing, keep doing well’. “So that’s what I was doing and I just expected a contract. I didn’t expect anything massive because I hadn’t been playing every game, I’d only played bit parts. But whatever was on the table for me I would have accepted. 100 per cent. I didn’t even think in my head that I would leave Villa.” And whilst being released by his boyhood club may have come as a shock, there’s no doubt that since his exit, he’s continued to prove his former side wrong. Hailed as an “underrated” player by ex-Liverpool ace Danny Murphy, Albrighton of course played a key role in Leicester’s miraculous Premier League title triumph in 2016 – that season saw him pick up an impressive seven assists in just the top-flight. And even now at 31, the winger is still producing the goods for Leicester, delivering the assist for Jamie Vardy’s late equaliser in the Foxes’ 3-3 draw against Braga in the Europa League on Thursday. He’s taken his experience with Villa and let it motivate him, and that’s full credit to him.

shailen 1,890 Posted 29 November 2020 Report Share Posted 29 November 2020 I still can't believe Villa didn't offer him a deal as they were in a worse state at the time than us probably and you need consistent performers who will give you a solid 7/8 when you're that side of the table...ah well he's been a great asset for us and probably is one of the best free transfers we have ever got.

Can do a ok job there but any time he comes up against a half decent winger he gets torn to shreds. Definitely still has something to offer, but not as a wing back longer term. Gamble92 1,252 Posted 30 November 2020 Report Share Posted 30 November 2020 As a kid I was used to free signings being Nicky Sumerbee, Billy Mckinlay or Craig Hignett. My brain finds it hard to compute that players like Albrighton and Fuchs cost nothing. How have they been as good as this for us? Truly incredible stuff. 2

Popular Post StriderHiryu 16,939 Posted 13 December 2020 Popular Post Report Share Posted 13 December 2020 Thought he was excellent tonight! He played three positions in one game, RWB, LW, RW and was great in all 3 positions. Full of running, lots of dangerous passes, did the defensive work and contributed to our attack. A colossal signing for the club. Well played Sharky!

I dunno, had a couple of bad games but at a time when rest of the team struggled also. Has had times when he must of thought his days were numbered here but has been patient and tonight had an absolute cracker, could have been contender for motm for me. A true Leicester legend, hope we treat him right as we have with wes and vardy.

Blue-fox 344 Posted 13 December 2020 Report Share Posted 13 December 2020 He’s hardly been muck, he is exactly the type of player we will need if we’re serious about challenging for Top 4. Comes in when needed and does a job and doesn’t appear to moan when not in the side.
