Aston Villa (H) pre-match, 09/03/20

I haven't seen this claim but did Abrighton say/allude to Rodgers being responsible for that attitude or have you just assumed it?

It's on the LeicestershireLive (Mercury) site. He uses the word "we" throughout, so I assume he's referring to the squad.  My question is - if there really was a feeling of complacency in the squad pre-match, shouldn't Rodgers have picked up on it and put them straight?

Can we at least muster the courage, energy and motivation to beat these again this season? Don't approach the game as if it were a stroll, like we did in the cup matches.

I've had enough of half-hearted performances in the league as of late.

All your points are spot on! To be fair  the defence has been pretty good and, having looked at it, another 9 goals in that 'dire' period ( and that's only one every other game) could have gained us an extra 11 points and probably got us to a cup final! Maybe shows we should've got a loan striker in the january window. Shows our reliance on JV  (only one Vardy goal in those 18 matches)

Have you a particular decent loan striker in mind that would have come here and be an improvement? I'm sure this and permanent deals would have been considered but only the right player who'd be willing to come and who would be released.

Switch In Fuchs for Chilwell if he's crocked.

Absolutely spot on, I'm beginning to wonder whether it's Rodgers himself who needs the biggest kick up the arse! Standing there writing copious notes like a redundant school teacher is all very well but he needs to stamp his feet a bit or change some of the players for some with a bit of grit and fight. Unless they are merely following his orders, in which case he's fast becoming duller than Puel with much better players. Something is clearly not right at the moment but i refuse to believe it's all down to confidence, that's a cop out.

Yeah, maybe. Also perhaps he realises that he is not going to get into Southgate's thinking so has lost a bit of his Mojo?

If he isn't in Southgate's thinking that's down solely to himself. He's not been playing well enough first and foremost and secondly, whatever our views on here are regards young players downtime, casinos and nightclubs and press coverage are a no no to the England manager and his stance. He probably comes across as an unprofessional immature nob that Southgate doesn't want to risk on tour. He's the author of his own fate and needs to wise up quickly. It's not what you do, it's what you're caught doing.

I would definitely go two up top in this. We need to get bodies in to the opposition box when attacking more. I'm sure the goals will come. Villa could be a few points adrift after the weekend so the pressure is on them. They need to come out and attack. Pace on the counter please Brendan. Based on fitness update today:

                        Kasper

Ricardo    Evans      Soyuncu    Fuchs

                        Ndidi

   Tielemans   Maddison   Praet

               Iheanacho   Vardy

Subs: Ward, Justin, Morgan, Choudhury, Barnes, Albrighton, Perez.

Has anybody heard how Johnny Evans condition is after the Birmingham game? Hope he will be in the starting lineup for Monday.

I think we will pinch this 2-1 and it will be a huge team effort, will be pivotal in our pursuit of maintaining a top 4 finish.

Wasn’t convinced by Brendan’s comments that vardy will be fit enough to start. He talked about managing him to avoid the injuries that he has had since Xmas ......

Hopefully the Brum win has placed a full stop at the end of that edgy spell post Villa semi loss.

The signs are good from BR's presser, Vardy and Ndidi in, Maddison off the back of an encouraging step up against Birmingham, Chilwell injured .

That said, if Chilwell is available, I still see him as the starting choice, if not, it's a classic game for Fuchs.

I'm still not enough of a purist to see the true benefit of Praet in the starting 11, but I agree, he's played himself into the starting line-up from his recent displays.

It's just that, as we're all aware, a fully firing Ndidi does allow Tielemans and Maddison to take up better positions, but purely on recent form, I'd stick with Praet over Tielemans.

In terms of starting 11, again for me, it's all down to if Iheancho starts or not.

If he doesn't, then it's the 4-3-3 standard.

Schmeichel

Ricardo Evans Soyuncu Chilwell/Fuchs

Praet Ndidi Maddison

Perez Vardy Barnes

If he does, and I think he should.

Schmeichel

Ricardo Evans Soyuncu Chilwell/Fuchs

Praet Ndidi Tielemans

Maddison

Vardy Iheanacho

Albrighton and Ricardo up front if it's 0-0 on 80'.

Forget this sideways and backwards low-risk approach we need to take the game to the opposition. Get up the field in numbers, with and without the ball. Rodgers must inspire some energy and fight to shake the lethargy that has infected the team. We need to play every game from here on in like it's a cup tie. We engineered the great escape when the odds were almost insurmountable so surely a more positive approach now should yield the 15 points we still need to take us to the promised land!

Absolutely! They need to stop playing like a big bunch of Jessie's and get some fire in their bellies. The most girly performer should get strangled by Soyuncu!
