Or just have these systems not connected to the Internet. Unless it was a Mission:Impossible job.

People are often the weak link in the chain.  There is some suggestion that when Iran's nuclear program was hit in 2010 by the Stuxnet virus, it bridged the airgap between the nuclear plant and the internet by someone simply dropping a USB in a staff car park.  An employee picked it up, took it inside and plugged it in to see if they could identify who it belonged to and that was that.

The Americans conducted an experiment where they did exactly that.  They used non-malicious code on USBs that simply reported the details about the computer it had been inserted into. Dropped them in staff carparks at FBI, CIA and other government departments to see how vulnerable they might be.  About half of the USBs were inserted into networked computers.

How do you set off explosions with a cyber attack ??

When you consider the other shenanigans the Israelis get up to, it’s really not surprising that it’s possible. https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.trtworld.com/magazine/here-s-how-israel-hacked-iran-s-nuclear-facility-45838/amp

Can we get the politics thread re-open now Geoff and Facecloth are over their lovers tiff?

We all know it gets out of hand sometimes but there's some good discussions in there most of the time. No worries if not

Why has it been locked again?

Geoff and Facecloth almost came to blows over whether it's Sir Keir or Sir Keith.

Facecloth ended up offering Geoff a one vs. one with no weapons down Victoria Park.

I offered to butt bald heads actually. First broken skull loses.

Accidental? I’m not having that.

if you don’t know the difference between a taser and a  loaded gun you have no right being a police officer.

There’s a HUGE responsibility that should come with carrying a gun.

If I go off hunting with my rifle and I  neglectfully have the  barrel pointing at someone whilst the gun malfunctions, discharges a bullet, and kills someone I would consider that 100% my fault for not being in mindful control of that gun.

There’s no such thing as an accidental shooting just bad gun ownership.

Is this murder? Maybe not but the cop should be punished for this. They have cost a young man their life.

What will punishing the cop do? It's obviously the training and culture at the academy and police stations that is rotten to the core. And at the root of it all are the insane gun laws in the US.

Well first you have to determine if a crime has been committed. I would argue that  being negligent and in possession of a firearm IS a crime, in which case a punishment would be the only reasonable outcome.

This is the issue.  It has happened a few times now.  Once is too many but this has happened several times which suggests to me that it is a design flaw.  It should be impossible, by design, to get them confused.

Instead, we have another tragic incident where a young man has been killed and a cop of over 25 years has to live with the fact that she made a mistake and somebody died as a result.

I don't disagree with that, but punishing the officer will not do much to stop these tragic situations from being common occurrence.

Daunte Wright shooting: Officer Kim Potter to be charged over killing https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-56752821

An appropriate charge to which the ( ex) officer will have a chance to defend themselves against..
