Start looking for new work.  The services industry is crumbling so if I were you I wouldn't assume that role is in any way secure.

Earlier this year, we were told that Italy was suffering badly, due to its high proportion of older people and because of extended families living together. However, fast forward six months, and Italy is showing few signs of a second wave, whilst in Spain, France and the UK, cases are rocketing back up. What's Italy doing right that the other three are doing wrong?

Two thoughts - neither I have evidence before

The horror which they suffered back early this year has ensured strong social distancing.

Or it’s a nation where the city population go out to the coast or holiday homes, therefore density is lower. People effectively creating family bubbles

Meanwhile, 11 deaths and 4368 cases today.

7th September (2 weeks ago) we had 2948 cases, people kept saying give it two weeks and the deaths will rapidly jump up, but they don't seem to be doing that, and they haven't for a long time.

It looks more like the amount of cases are fluctuating due to testing problems they are having.

Which is also going to cause problems further down the line if there is a drop in cases, people see it and are then told the testing has issues.

People need things to cling to, restrictions are almost seen as a trade-off for something better in the future.

I don’t get what they think will happen my enforcing a curfew on pubs etc. People will still be in there until ten. It’s like the virus wakes up at 10:30. Granted a few less younger people out in clubs but is it really going to have a fundamental influence on the spread ?

Thing is, all the uncertainty stems from no one knowing what to believe. It’s all very confusing. We read numbers of parts per 100000 and 1000000 instead of a more understanding parts per 100, we no longer talk about how many people have died from a disease , we talk about how many have caught it but then have to start talking about 2000 from 4000 false positives. To start chucking exponential growth rates, variables and algorithms at people is only asking for one response and that’s wtf is everyone on about, I’m going down the pub.

It is a bit daft.... it’s not like Covid isn’t out after ten, if there’s people in a pub, there is people in a pub..... it being after ten means nothing....

It’s not, but 5 hours of exposure is better than 6

Seems a bit of cake eating going on.

Line our coffers but don't have too much freedom.

With lockdown measures its an either or, surely. Either pubs are unsafe or safe. You can't really put a scale on time. Or maybe I'm being thick.

My guess would be that Italy were first to get it and were slowest to enforce lockdown.  As a result more people got it.

To which the conclusion could be that they (and Sweden) have had enough people catch the disease to achieve herd immunity.  It's what all countries are aiming for, though they would rather get there by vaccination; but perhaps, by accident in Italy's case and deliberately in Sweden's case, they have done it.

The curious case of London supports this theory. Epicentre of cases at the height of it and since then London has not been a problem area.

Which also puts paid to the theory that it's 'selfish bast*rds' to blame.

Are selfish b*stards not present in London?
