Again, I have absolutely no idea why people get so spazzy about the fee. It is what it is. We need a cb and he comes with an English Premium and Prem Experience.

If Rodgers thinks he is a missing link then good enough for me. Just remember when you are whining about £37m, Maguire went for £80 odd million and John Stones £50m.

I just don’t get it with our fans. “We’re not signing anyone, the owners are cheap!”

They open the Amex and now you’re all complaining.
You need to spend money to compete in more than one league.

I’m from Oz and even I understand this.

Looks like you’ve joined the wrong Football Forum as you’re definitely not a Foxes fan !

You're using two of the worst defensive signings in terms of overpaying to back up your argument.  Maguire/Stones type transfers are precisely what we are trying to avoid.

No. I am simply pointing out that these prices need to be paid for a proven, in his prime, English cb. Just to add we have just sold our underwhelming lb for £50m plus addons.

If his club quite rightly want to price him at £35-40m then that is what we have to pay. How much would you sell Soyuncu for? I expect you would be looking for at least £60m. Makes £35m seem fine to me.

We do not need to use Maguire's fee or Stones' fee (2016) as benchmarks.  I would hope that we are smarter than that because those two represent terrible value.  They were also bought by two of the biggest financial powerhouses in the PL that we can never hope to compete with.  That's the reason we still haven't bought anyone yet imo  as we are trying to find value or at least avoid getting rinsed like they were.

I mean, short term it's definitely a better signing than Fofana. It's not quite our recent recruitment style but there's no argument he's defensively very solid, very experienced at this level and almost certainly the right sort of personality. We need stubborn warriors back there and that's what Dyche produces.

Think this is right, as much as I would welcome Tarkowski, as he is a good player, it just feels a little off. Fofana feels more in line with recent dealings, certainly in terms of age and potential. Just don't think I will ever believe we are in for Tarkowski until I see him holding the shirt, maybe even nodding in it at the near post against someone.

I remember a quote from Vichai that part of the clubs strategy to compete was to extract value from player deals and to produce our own stars and help them grow. That sounds brilliant and in keeping with his business acumen

that makes The signing of Wes F a better fit for the club although Brendan would have a say in what is needed .

it seems a better model than the Everton / W Ham one of buying ageing and expensive players and assisting their decline

You cant keep buying young prospects though, one of our biggest problem last year was the lack of experience and leaders, Tarkowski adds to that. It's more than I'd like to pay but for me its a good signing, if it happens. Even at the price he is still 3rd choice in a back 4 but I think he'd back himself to get in the side any stay there. Evans won't be able to play as many games this season, without a doubt. Don't see Tarkowski as a back 3 sort of signing, that's more Fofana for me. Doubt we'd sign both but didn't think we'd sign Soyuncu and Benkovic but we did. It would be a shame, but probably correct, if we don't see Wes Morgan play again.

You're probably right, but the argument is whether Tarkowski represents good value by using two world record fees as benchmarks.

I think he would be good for us but we will be overpaying.  Look at the signing of Castagne.  He must be worth double.  That is how we progress as a club, by finding value, not by following United's clumsy missteps.  It looks like that might not be possible this time though.

But we have plenty of players with re sale value in the squad

Two ways to put needed experience into a squad though, you buy or you develop it.

Mendy has experience, Tielemans too, just because he is young, he has been around the block.

Others like Wilf, Praet, etc are another year wiser.

I'm not sure where else there's better value. Fofana would cost a similar fee and could be worth two or three times that in a season or two, or he could flop considering he's only about 20 appearances into his professional career.

Man City are signing a 23 year old CB from Benfica for £65m. Kurt Zouma who has a questionable injury record and has suffered from patchy form is being touted for a similar fee to Tarkowski's. Tah might cost a bit more and has a good reputation but has suffered from poor form recently.

Some recent highly rated CBs from the Championship who went for lower fees have hardly worked out either. Ben Gibson couldn't oust Tarkowski and Mee at Burnley, and they started two other guys against us and let Gibson go. Mepham hardly pulled up trees at Bournemouth and is back in the Championship.

I genuinely can't think of a cheaper alternative to Tarkowski who would give us the same assurances. Mings would cost a similar amount if not more. Wolves probably wouldn't let Coady go but would he fit in? Would any of Sheffield United's CBs fit in here or are they thriving because of their manager? Ben Mee is solid but I don't think is as good a footballer Tarkowski. Man Utd's backups are a joke, maybe with the exception of Smalling but he's still probably off to Roma and still represents an injury risk. Arsenal and Chelsea's backups? Nah.

There is probably better value if we go digging around properly but I think Tarkowski is ready made for us and will settle in quickly.

If Jonny Evans has let the club know he won’t sign a new deal then that would be a strong argument for Tarkowski .would be surprising though
