Newport vs Swansea one of the highlights of the first round draw.

Funny when Merson is asked to pick his highlights after the North draw.

Said Derby vs Barrow was a 'phenomenal' tie twice. Poor guy got stitched up there as it's quite clear he has no idea what kind of ties are in prospect and was put on the spot lol

Carabao must be the longest running sponsors of this competition in its history but it's not done a lot to raise their profile

Going into their fourth season. For comparison:

Milk Marketing Board: Five years

Coca-Cola: Six years

Carling: Nine Seasons

No idea how much they're pushing it abroad more than in the UK, though I bow to your wisdom if you're a specialist in the international marketing industry!

I suspect the complete blanket sponsorship of the Wembley advertising hoardings in the final, where they've had Man City-Arsenal, Man City-Chelsea and Man City-Villa are also big draws for them.

Also looks like their sales are up over the last few years. Of course, we can't attribute this entirely to their sponsorship, I'll admit.

ha ha - hardly. Impressive research to overturn a remark based on the fact that I don't think I've ever seen any of their products for sale in any of the stores I frequent .

Naw it's not on you at all, I just wanted to see for myself how they've got on and shared it.

I haven't seen it on the shelves either to be honest, though it's not quite as rare to find as "Rich Energy" which is a whole other story for a whole other thread. I think they're the ever-growing trend of sponsoring English football but with little intention of penetrating the UK market (though I am not an international marketing specialist either, so who knows?)

Yeah Newport v Swansea seems tasty. Also Gillingham v Southend.

Shame they'll be no fans for those sort of games.

I'm quite excited for the first rounds taking place in quick succession. At the very least, it keeps it fresh in the mind, and a few victories in the span of a short period to progress in the cup must be a good thing for a squad mentality and momentum in the league.

That said, where possible, play the yooof and reserves in this one, and blood those on the fringe of the first team who might get a look-in. There is a fair amount of freedom for Rodgers to experiment with these games as long as we last the first round or two. I imagine most clubs regardless of level will be doing the same, because game time is at even more of a premium than usual. Plus, unless something changes fairly quickly, the chances of us being able to watch even the latter stages of the competition live are minimal. Which is fine in the circumstances, dealing with the pandemic is way more important, but doesn't exactly make you want to really "go for it". It's a bit of a Pyrrhic victory even if as a fanbase you really value the prize - ask any Liverpool fan that isn't a complete plastic and you'll likely get a fair amount of regret that they weren't able to be there for the crowning moments.

The league is alright but let's be real, there's next to no anticipation for knockout fixtures right now when the big prize of a Wembley final isn't extended to the fans. It'll be nice if we do manage it, but quickly forgotten without the ritual of the trip to the Big Smoke. The main incentive to stay in the competition as long as possible, for me, is the chance to blood youth and reserve players in valuable competitive games.

Forest lost at Barnsley.

Coventry won at MK Dons.

There were a few surprises ....

Luton beat Norwich (albeit a not very strong Norwich side)

Newport beat Swansea

Peterborough lost at home to Cheltenham

Huddersfield lost at home to Rochdale

Northampton 3 0 Cardiff

Controversial opinion, but think they should scrap this competition.

It's lost its identity to the top clubs a while ago now, and only appeals to those in power divisions.

I agree - but the prospect of a tie/replay with a big Premier League club can almost be a lifeline to a smaller club and the revenue substantial. I can't stand the imposition of the League Cup. The unfinished business for us is the F.A. Cup.

Im looking forward to this competition this year. I think as we have europe we can simply use it as an exercise to give the youngsters a chance. I always enjoy these games more when its a platform for people to show the club what theyve got. Hopefully our reserves can put a decent run together.

My only worry is that Brendan gets jittery and starts Vardy or other key players

I’m very late with this but they did the draw in Morrisons, what more do you want?

I wouldn't normally say sack off a competition but given our extra european games and the horrific scheduling of our game against Arsenal, I 100% would back Rodgers to play  a much weakened side. With only 1 day gap between Burnley and arsenal, we will need to make 11 changes in my opinion and use some of the u23 lads. No doubt Arsenal will play a much weaker side as well. I'd go something like

Ward, Johnson, Morgan, Knight, Thomas, Hamza, James (is he fit?), Praet (if he doesnt start against Burnley), Albrighton, Gray, nacho

Play the kids, couldn't care less about it this year. Can't afford to risk the few best first teamers we have fit on this. May be worth a few fitness minutes for Benkovic, Armarty, Morgan Maddison and Iheanacho.

I'm sure it will be a second string. Least important competition in a condensed season.

I think the team will be something like:

                            Ward

             Amartey   Wes   Fuchs

Albrighton           Knight          Thomas

              Choudhury      KDH

                Gray

                              Nacho

Subs: Jakupovic, Johnson, Daley-Campbell, Tavares, Leshabela, Ndukwu, Hirst

There is a massive 2 day gap, not one. Not that it changes the intent of lineup for this match. Play the benchwarmers/reserves/youth players so everyone has been involved early on.
