Underrated album tracks

Recommended Posts

You know the ones.. those tracks on the albums that were never made into a single, but should have been

I’ll start with...

you probably couldn’t see for the lights but you were staring straight at me - arctic monkeys

can’t be bothered going past page 1 to check if this has already been done

Good thread.

A couple from these guys...

Not sure I'd describe 'Gimmie Shelter' as an "underrated album track". It opens 'Let it Bleed' and is regarded as the strongest song on the album and seen by many as the greatest track that they ever recorded and is still a staple of live performances.

'Ruby Tuesday' wasn't an album track in the UK and although it was the B Side to 'Let's Spend the Night Together', it actually gained more airplay and was more popular. I wouldn't say it was underrated either - it's one of their most acclaimed songs of the 1960s.

Sorry, didn't mean to be contrary or pedantic.

I don't mind being corrected if I've got something wrong.  I missed the fact that Ruby Tuesday was a B side, apologies.  As for Gimme Shelter the OP did ask for opinions on album tracks that weren't made into a single but should have been, so as Gimme Shelter was such a strong track I suggested it.

Fair point - although the title of the thread was "underrated album tracks" which 'Gimmie Shelter' most certainly is not. And as I said, I really wasn't trying to be contrary or pedantic.

Ruby Tuesday is actually another great example of how underappreciated Brian Jones was in his prime. Although he didn't strictly compose, there are so many sixties tracks that he left his signature and hooklines on, without which they wouldn't have been the same. Ruby Tuesday is Brian's music and just one example of a long line of the Glimmer Twins shameless exploitation of musicians, talents and ideas.

So many...

Practically every Spiritualized track since they don't really do singles.

Pixies didn't release many singles, but many workers.

I'm resisting the urge to go too obscure with the many brilliant bands who have done amazing albums which most people have never heard of.
