Really? Use surprise me, Alf.

I think Stairway to Heaven includes my favourite guiar solo. Page's guitar work makes them for me (bit of an understatement considering he's one of the greatest of all time!).

I don't do chart rubbish, but has anyone heard the song "WAP" by Cardi B? Absolute fvcking dross. Astounds me that the song is actually successful as the lyrics are fvcking garbage. Recent I know but definitely a contender.

Have you seen the lyrics? Absolutely cringe-worthy and amazing that it actually gets airtime on the radio:

I said, certified freak
Seven days a week
Wet ass pussy
Make that pull-out game weak, woo
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, you ****ing with some wet ass pussy
Bring a bucket and a mop for this wet ass pussy
Give me everything you got for this wet ass pussy
Beat it up, nigga, catch a charge
Extra large and extra hard
Put this pussy right in your face
Swipe your nose like a credit card
Hop on top, I wanna ride
I do a kegel while it's inside
Spit in my mouth, look in my eyes
This pussy is wet, come take a dive
Tie me up like I'm surprised
Let's role play, I wear a disguise
I want you to park that big Mack truck
Right in this little garage
Make it cream, make me scream
Out in public, make a scene
I don't cook, I don't clean
But let me tell you how I got this ring (ayy, ayy)
Gobble me, swallow me, drip down inside of me
Quick jump out 'fore you let it get inside of me
I tell him where to put it, never tell him where I'm 'bout to be
I run down on him 'fore I have a nigga running me
Talk your shit, bite your lip
Ask for a car while you ride that dick (while you ride that dick)
You really ain't never gotta **** him for a thang
He already made his mind up 'fore he came
Now get your boots and your coat
For this wet ass pussy
He bought a phone just for pictures
Of this wet ass pussy
Pay my tuition just to kiss me
On this wet ass pussy
Now make it rain if you wanna
See some wet ass pussy
Look, I need a hard hitter, I need a deep stroker
I need a Henny drinker, I need a weed smoker
Not a garden snake, I need a king cobra
With a hook in it, hope it lean over
He got some money, then that's where I'm headed
Pussy A1, just like his credit
He got a beard, well, I'm tryna wet it
I let him taste it, now he diabetic
I don't wanna spit, I wanna gulp
I wanna gag, I wanna choke
I want you to touch that little dangly dang
That swang in the back of my throat
My head game is fire, punani Dasani
It's going in dry and it's coming out soggy
I ride on that thang like the cops is behind me
I spit on his mic and now he tryna sign me, woo
Your honor, I'm a freak bitch, handcuffs, leashes
Switch my wig, make him feel like he cheating
Put him on his knees, give him something to believe in
Never lost a fight, but I'm looking for a beating
In the food chain, I'm the one that eat ya
If he ate my ass, he's a bottom feeder
Big D stand for big demeanor
I could make you bust before I ever meet ya
If it don't hang, then he can't bang
You can't hurt my feelings, but I like pain
If he **** me and ask, "Whose is it?"
When I ride the dick, I'ma spell my name
Ah
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, you ****ing with some wet ass pussy
Bring a bucket and a mop for this wet ass pussy
Give me everything you got for this wet ass pussy
Now from the top, make it drop
That's some wet ass pussy
Now get a bucket and a mop
That's some wet ass pussy
I'm talking WAP, WAP, WAP
That's some wet ass pussy
Macaroni in a pot
That's some wet ass pussy, uh
(There's some whores in this house)

No wonder kids these days are turning into absolute braindead morons.

I listened to the charts for the first time in years the other week and was surprised to hear lot's of good pop songs.

'Achy Breaky Heart' springs to mind as one of the worst I've heard, 'I'm too sexy' is another.

There is a version of that song that could qualify IMO

Partly a completely unsuccessful attempt to provoke light-hearted outrage, I must admit. I do find that song an awful, pretentious drone, though.

Might be partly a generational thing as I came of age during the punk/post-punk era, when there was a "year zero" attitude, whereby all that serious rock and hippie stuff that went before was supposed to be rejected.....though I'd like to think I've long since moved on from such narrow-mindedness.

Apart from anything, I've just heard it too often, like Lennon's "Imagine". I might think it was good if I'd never heard it before and listened with fresh ears.

A good mate who was a Led Zep fan got me to listen to one of their albums (can't remember which one) a few years ago - and I much preferred that to "Stairway to heaven".

Beds are burning by Midnight Oil. God awful shite.

wow, that is a surprise.

One of Australia's finest bands, with a meaningful and banging song.

Just a (genuine) query, did you hear it when it came out back in the 80s/90s... or is it a recent awareness?

Back in the 80s when it came out, it did quite well in the charts here. That bald headed tw@t screeching, really wound me up.

A little history.

In the mid 70's DJ Kenny Everett had a weekend show on Capital Radio.  He started a slot on that show called 'The World's Worst Wireless Show' when he played a bad record.  This became quite popular as many of the records were so bad that they were amusing.  The concept culminated in a full two hour show called 'The World's Worst Record Show - Bottom 30' which was based on votes from listeners for the worst record.  This again attracted a large audience and an LP of the records on the show was released after the event.  One of the artists, Jess Conrad, had I recall three entries in the bottom 30 and re-launched his career on the success of the show.

Anyway, if you can bear to listen to it, this one made number one.

I have started putting the subtitles on the telly while i watch music shows... ive been most impressed with the lyrical content that my mangy old ears couldnt figure out. (WAP excluded obv.)

Bohemian Rhapsody

Delayed reaction....

Nah, can't go with that suggestion. The melodramatic, high camp absurdity of the song gets it kudos from me.

If I thought that it had been intended purely as a pompous, po-faced bit of self-worship, I might have agreed with you....but there's plenty of humour in it, I think.

Freddie Mercury doesn't strike me as someone who took himself entirely seriously...
