Son’s goal was a beauty though. One of those games that you just knew we’d lose tbh.
los dedos 599 Posted 29 October 2020 Report Share Posted 29 October 2020 Pleat's last game ? Think we were playing Blackburn. Most of the Kop were willing what I think was there 2nd in . It was the straw that broke the camels back, big protest afterwards and he was gone .
Gubbins 325 Posted 29 October 2020 Report Share Posted 29 October 2020 I dont think so but if a scenario ever occurred where our defeat would result in Man Utd, Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal or Forest being relegated I would be totally fine with us being thrashed!
Royston. 1,849 Posted 29 October 2020 Report Share Posted 29 October 2020 The seaon when arsenal went unbeaten we played them last game. We were already relegated and i wanted arsenal not to lose. .
bovril 8,084 Posted 29 October 2020 Report Share Posted 29 October 2020 Wasn't bothered about Arsenal in the cup this season.
Corky 12,850 Posted 29 October 2020 Report Share Posted 29 October 2020 No. There have been times I'd take a point before the game, or not too fussed if we lose, but actively wanting us to? Can't imagine it happening.

cambridgefox 2,837 Posted 29 October 2020 Report Share Posted 29 October 2020 Carabao this year. Huge season, league and Europe and would really want us to win the FA cup, because of the amount of fixtures I felt we could do without being in it for the sake of the players. Often think we not going to get anything out of a game but still rooting for the boys to pull something out of the bag
hejammy 1,428 Posted 29 October 2020 Report Share Posted 29 October 2020 It's crazy to think any fan would want us to lose any game! No matter what, even if you despise the manager or whatever. Never have I ever wanted us to lose.

foxile5 2,417 Posted 29 October 2020 Report Share Posted 29 October 2020 Absolutely not. Though I'm sure I haven't been particularly disappointed at some losses.
Fktf 614 Posted 29 October 2020 Report Share Posted 29 October 2020 Like others, never actively wanted us to lose, but didn't give a toss about the league cup earlier this year.

Yeah but you can always play the third or fourth string so there really is no excuse to actively wanting to lose. Edited 29 October 2020 by Collymore

ceredigion 207 Posted 29 October 2020 Author Report Share Posted 29 October 2020 I think that a lot of people who responded to the topic have misunderstood the question. It isn't asking whether there have been games where you're not really bothered about the result if it's a meaningless end of season fixture, because even then you would still want us to win I presume. The question is have you ever had real positive reasons for wanting us to lose or draw as opposed to win.

Can't imagine it happening. I'm in the firmly no camp, but this is the closest. Not as far as not fussed if we lose before the game but ie, the final game before shit managers get the sack, or out of a shit cup before getting trounced by man city in the next leg, I can enjoy it for what it is after the event. Which is big enough for me because not only do I never want us to lose, I ALWAYS believe we can!

No matter how much I’d want us to get rid of managers in the past or get knocked out of comps, secretly deep down I still want to win, always! Id say the arsenal game in the league cup this season, with the bad draw we got, the fact we’re in the Europa league, lots of injury’s etc is probably the first time I’d argue I was happy to get knocked out, however in the game when it said ‘there’s been a goal’ I wanted it to be us still! When you hear "there's been a goal"! Plastic 😱

All home games and with it being pleats last year, that season had it all. At home we had play offs form, but shit away, which I didn't even follow, so I saw great results, got to join in with Pleat out, and got one of the best celebrations when Tony James kept us up. And here I am! Thanks Pleat for your part in it. 1

This is a forum and the "misunderstood" responses make this a far better read than a load of no's followed by a few yes's with bizarre self justifications. Roll with it. Dan LCFC 11,700 Posted 30 October 2020 Report Share Posted 30 October 2020 I must admit I think during that Palace game under Puel (which did eventually see him sacked) when they went 1-3 up I thought we need to lose this, it will help us in the long run, and I'd argue it probably did. It's not so much hoping we lost, but more not being as fussed once we had.
