Popular Post tom27111 2,812 Posted 5 November 2020 Popular Post Report Share Posted 5 November 2020 Massive game. Could put us top of the league before a well needed rest and a huge game against Liverpool. I'd actually go as far as saying season defining. We've done it away, let's do it at home. This could genuinely make us a serious top 4 contender. Forget winning it again, for now. Games like this are what we have to win to be up there.

Popular Post Stadt 12,932 Posted 5 November 2020 Popular Post Report Share Posted 5 November 2020 This is the game we’ll learn the most from. Rodgers has performed far better than I thought so far but if we beat them we’ve properly turned the corner. The onus is on us in this one and they’re obviously incredibly belligerent - I’d be hesitant to play 352/343 because it’ll suit them. Injuries might force us into it though.

Do we think we will line up similar? Yes they do. They play 343 but the difference between us and them is that they press higher up the pitch and play longer, more direct balls more often than we do. They are a bit more like our 15/16 team but with a different formation, though they also have similarities to the way Braga played tonight in terms of their front 3. They have a brilliant defensive shape and structure though and it's why the last 3 games between us have been 0-0. Until this season I would say they were comfortably the best counter attacking team in the league, but this season we've overshadowed them because our attacking players are better. Jamie Vardy is after all a Premier League legend! Traore is good but I think Barnes is more effective, and we also have Under, Tielemans, Mendy, Praet, Maddison, etc. A deep block by the opposition may still be the best tactic to beat us as that's what West Ham played, but with players like Under, Praet, Maddison and Tielemans, plus the potential of Castagne and Ricardo when they are back, we might still have enough to adapt to that strategy. Time will tell! It's a very interesting game for that reason. Wolves won't just park the bus, but the way they defend at times, it's almost as effective as doing that. That's me being complimentary to them, if you analyse their defensive play, in many games they are absolutely superb and Nuno deserves high praise for his work with them. I would expect a "chess match" feel to this game, a bit like an old school Serie A game on Channel 4 for those old enough to remember. It may well have 0-0 written all over it, though to be honest I don't think that's a bad result. Obviously I want us to win but with the way we are playing, we are going to pick up lots of points this season. So as long as we keep picking up points, be it draws or wins I think that's only good for our final league position. 4
Arriba Los Zorros 2,446 Posted 5 November 2020 Report Share Posted 5 November 2020 I never like playing Wolves, feel that our game plan plays into their hands. We definitely need to be cagey and try and force them to come out more.

Yeah from a tactical point of view, I would also share that opinion. But it depends on what we want from the game. We are still nursing so many injuries and some players start to return after this game in the league. So having a drab 0-0 isn't the worst thing in the world, we would still have a lot of points and a high league position and will only get better as first teamers return. If I was the manager and playing to want to outright win this game, I'd play 433 / 4141 with Barnes, Under and Vardy all in the team, supported by Maddison and Tielemans. The first 3 are fast players that can stretch their back 3 and the midfield two are schemers to make the spaces and opportunities for those front 3. But this assumes we get on top of the game and control it, if we don't then we will be susceptible on the break especially to Traore and we might find 19 year old Luke Thomas up against him, which in terms of physicality is a total mismatch. Jimenez is probably the one player in the league right now that could dominate Fofana 1v1. That's why I think we will stick to 343 and play to nick the win rather than to outright win it. And with the way we are playing, we might still pull it off. We have many players in great form at the minute. Edited 5 November 2020 by StriderHiryu
jayfox26 2,047 Posted 5 November 2020 Report Share Posted 5 November 2020 Its nailed on for us to go to Anfield top of the league and then Liverpool get a dodgy last minute pen and take all 3 points 4

I thought we'd struggle a little against Leeds but they are clearly more bothered about scoring goals and winning games than they are not losing and as good as we were on Monday that fed into our hands. I think this is going to be a really difficult game and I'm really interested to see what Brendan does for this tactically. A win would be great but I honestly wouldn't complain about a draw and a good performance.

Ted Maul 4,092 Posted 5 November 2020 Report Share Posted 5 November 2020 Probably a draw, which I'd take after the recent run of form and amount of games we've played. Can't see it being a brilliant game.

I think Rodgers will try to revert to the attacking 4-3-3 in the last half hour as we did against Arsenal, maybe subbing Maddison and Under on like he did vs Leeds, whilst he sets up with a more cautious formation to begin with.
