lcfc_forever 89 Posted 22 November 2020 Report Share Posted 22 November 2020 (edited) After that performance, an obvious thread to start. Been thinking about this for some time how poor we are offensively from set pieces. Today, we were shocking defensively as well. Time and time again, our corners and free kicks were easily cleared and sometimes we were in danger of the counter-attack. Maddison's delivery has been usually poor. They are such an efficient, cheap way to score goals yet for some reason, we haven't seen them as a priority. A brilliant team like Liverpool clearly work on them to get to the level they're at. Big supporter of Rodgers but this is a huge blindspot, and has been for some time. Edited 22 November 2020 by lcfc_forever

dylanlegend 1,089 Posted 22 November 2020 Report Share Posted 22 November 2020 Set pieces have never been a strong part of ours since we’ve had Kasper in goal.... apart from when we had Huth at the back. But then would you rather be good at them and have 6 massive lumps in the team like Stoke used to have?
BigGibbo 64 Posted 22 November 2020 Report Share Posted 22 November 2020 I don't think we've ever done a defensive corner drill in training. Consistently have kids and midgets marking their main threats.
hejammy 1,428 Posted 22 November 2020 Report Share Posted 22 November 2020 Both offensively and defensively our weakest part of the game.
Steve Earle 1,022 Posted 22 November 2020 Report Share Posted 22 November 2020 Kasper. Not worth being on the pitch when we’re defending a set piece. Just think how it’d feel to have a goalkeeper too!
lcfcsnow 1,422 Posted 22 November 2020 Report Share Posted 22 November 2020 Someone else should take them for a start but seems no one wants to make that decision.
Arriba Los Zorros 2,439 Posted 22 November 2020 Report Share Posted 22 November 2020 We are ****ing gash at set pieces. I'm all for focusing on creativity in open play but we shouldn't totally neglect them like we seem to.
adejo92 1,098 Posted 22 November 2020 Report Share Posted 22 November 2020 I don't think our team is set up for winning aerial battles hence why we always tend to try short intricate set pieces. It's just a shame that all of our set Pieces end up with Kasper who then kicks it out of play with his Coalville esque club foot.
SecretPro 3,188 Posted 22 November 2020 Report Share Posted 22 November 2020 We've been shite at set pieces since Gary Parker retired.
peterborofox 1,454 Posted 22 November 2020 Report Share Posted 22 November 2020 Been a thing for ages now, at both ends. Seem sloppy defending and let so many easy headers go against us. Other end we look like we don't even practice. Amount that are wasted playing short or hit the first man is embarrassing at times.

SecretPro 3,188 Posted 22 November 2020 Report Share Posted 22 November 2020 Corners are properly shit. When a lot of teams win a corner you can see that it means there is a real chance of a goal. When we win a corner I get up to put the kettle on. 1
Ian Nacho 3,477 Posted 22 November 2020 Report Share Posted 22 November 2020 I think it’s more balls in the air into the box in general. I’d say 80% of the goals we’ve conceded have been directly from crosses or a crosses we haven’t cleared properly. We’re definitely missing big Wes in that sense and that’s why he sometimes comes on in the late stage of a game when we’re winning.
Jonezy 590 Posted 22 November 2020 Report Share Posted 22 November 2020 Definitely a weak point of our team. Toothless in the attacking ones and scarebombs in the defensive ones.
matty98 1,731 Posted 22 November 2020 Report Share Posted 22 November 2020 We really miss Ndidi defending from set pieces, he has a huge leap on him. Also missing Castagne who offers decent height in the box. Hardly surprising we're conceding more from them with such a small team and a keeper who won't come out and claim anything. Rodgers gets a lot of praise from the players for his coaching, and rightly so from what we've seen from open play, but he hasn't got it right for us on set pieces, especially offensively. We've got so many creative, technically gifted players - Maddison, Tielemans, Under etc - but time and time again, corners don't clear the first man or are easily cleared. Sort this and it will make a huge difference for us. He's adapted his tactics to success vs Man City, this would be the next big step in Rodgers' evolution as a manager. Only 1 in 29 corners lead to a goal within 10 seconds of it being taken. Statistically its more likely fir the defending to to score on the break.
Vacamion 11,389 Posted 22 November 2020 Report Share Posted 22 November 2020 On offensive corners and free kicks, just stop kicking it to the fooking first man. This would help massively.
