I’m not sure they are. Uefa like the current format but owing to pressure from the bigger clubs have relented to find a different format.

The Big Sux clubs who don’t want more games but do want more games?  The teams that worry about their players but actually couldn’t give a fuch about their players?  These aren’t a paradox in a rich mans world.

I’m not sure the “smaller” footballing countries would agree.....

but why not a league system of 18 teams in each league with promotion/relegation. Top 4 in the top division having a S/F then final.

likewise in division 2,3 and so on. In divisions 2,3 and so on, the finalist both get promoted, to the division above, the bottom two relegated. Trophies for the winners of each league.

The 18 teams in the top division coming from Europe’s top x 5 leagues, so the “bigger clubs” get they’re  needs met. But each league still following the Swiss model of ten random league games.

if the winners of division 2 in this format, (let’s say Ajax) do not manage to qualify from their domestic league proper for the following  season, their place is taken from

the next Dutch team in their own domestic league. Likewise if Chelsea relegated from the top division, but don’t qualify outright from their domestic league the following season, then their place taken from an English replacement.

The 18 teams in the top division I think would mean x 3 from each country with x 3 places for teams from counties such as Netherlands, Portugal et cetera.

of course this could be all crap and littered with flaws 😁

The managers and players don't but the owners do. Cutting Premier League matches is nothing to do with player welfare- they want to cut some matches to fill the space with others. Bin four matches against Fulham and Brighton to play lucrative Champions League games.

Absolutely love this quote from that:

"We have made it absolutely crystal clear to UEFA and Aleksander Ceferin that allowing clubs to qualify for Europe based on anything other than sporting merit is completely unacceptable and fans oppose expansion of the Champions league,’ said Kevin Miles, chief executive of the Football Supporters’ Association."
