Motorbikes are brilliant

Recommended Posts

Some days really take a turn - one minute I'm getting a bike and everything is good, the next minute people are taking the piss and the wife has decided that instead of a bike we can move house.

Move to Stanton Under Bardon, you'd love it.

Bloody 'ooligan.

That's a mental bit of kit, a real tool.

Do you competition on it or just rip up someone's farm?

Rip up someones farm lol

Often go on trips to wales for the weekend, there is a wicked place to taz around. Allsorts of terrain and hills to master.

Ive riden a few tracks but prefer just to do my own thing.

Remember, always look out for bikes!

Though the "now you see him... NOW YOU SEE HIM... NOW YOU SEE HIM!!!" ad really grates since the guy checks, sees the bike behind him and so signals he is turning right. Why the hell is the bike trying to over-take him when he's signaling to turn right. Basically the ad is saying that bikers need not exercise caution when overtaking because it will always be the car driver's fault. Crap ad!

  • 3 months later...
Further to my previous post I did do my CBT a few weeks ago, and I get my 125 Friday. Excited but nervous too as it was ages ago now and its a baptism of fire the 60 mile journey home. Also need to sort a jacket as the one that was delivered yesterday is like a boob tube!

How did others find starting out?

You need to get in quick for your test otherwise you be taking the extended new test with 50kmh emergency stops and the like.

Where are you collecting it from? Which 125?

Oh, and well done mate

Well done, you wont look back.......

The first couple of times i went out on my own i was sh*t scared but it is a really steep learning curve.

I did the Direct Access course so went from passing my CBT to riding and owning a Yamaha Thundercat (600cc) in 1 week,

after six months i thought it was too slow and bought a Triumph T595

again six months later i decided that was too slow and i bought my Aprilia Mille

My dad recently got rid of his Ducati 748, hated him having it and glad it's gone.

Dangerous things, and motorbike drivers are gernally idiots, you rarely see one sticking to any sort of speed limit or not weaving in and out of traffic at their convinience.

Nothing like a stereotype or gernalisation................

And for the record it is called filtering and it is not illegal.......

Yeh the plan was originally to have a few months to see if I liked riding then take a direct access course just before new test came in, of course my laziness put paid to that. Listening to 5live this morning though it seems there is a chance they may postpone test change (instructors on saying its been rushed through and the admin etc isnt in place) so fingers crossed.

I'm collecting it from work but I commute so its 60 odd miles will have a few goes round there and if I bottle it can leave it there and take it out a few lunchtimes. Loads of people t my work ride and have offered to 'escort' me home, but pride means I want to do it myself - plus its a good acid test

I'm getting this: Honda%20XL125V%2007.jpg

I thought best to get a bigger 125 if I'm looking to full test as then it wouldnt be such a step up.

Cheers for all replies (except the usual)

Most riders are pretty decent actually. You get the odd Rossi wannabe, but you wouldn't judge everyone who drives a car based on some muppets in a corsa with a subwoofer and a huge exhaust would you? 95%+ of bike overtaking manouvres are fine (and the rest are typically the previously mentioned Rossi-wannabes making moves on blind bends, not working their way past queues), "weaving in and out of traffic" is actually not bad either - the ideal with filtering is to stick between two lanes rather than weave across, but often you end up with idiots deliberately not allowing space so inevitably people will change lane and filter down another. The majority of riders take it careful and do it sensibly, there's no problem with it.
