What grinds my gears...

Recommended Posts

This grinds my gears both figuratively and absolutely literally:

My car has a six-speed gearbox. My wife's car has a five-speed gearbox, with reverse located below fifth.

Every single time I drive my wife's car, I accidentally try - at high speed - to put it from fifth gear into reverse.

I bet you've caused a few shit-up pants from people following you on the motorway when they've seen the reverse lights come on at 70mph

Never though of that! I'm assuming the gear has to engage before the light comes on. If that was to ever happen, I think passing motorists would be more concerned by the pistons shooting out of the bonnet than a reverse light.

Premier league footballers who 'Sometimes need a arm around their shoulder'.

They're professionals ffs; on 10s or even 100s of thousands of pounds a week.

Man-up you spoilt brats.

I didn’t realise being a professional meant you can’t ever feel any emotions

I agree HPF, it is the French spelling. I did consider not mentioning that one, though I don't remember Aimee's at school when I was there, they were all Amy.

I think people really just do want to be different these days. I could be wrong with this, but there did seem to be a lot of black Americans who came along together in an era with unusual first names (or at least names I'd never heard before) such as Shawniece, LaKeisha, DeShawn, Trayvon, LaShonda etc etc. I won't pretend to know enough about black American culture to know why those names sprouted up but I think a lot of people of all different cultures have followed suit.

From this day forward I shall be known as Siouxie !!

Money doesn't equal happiness.

Just because you earn loads doesn't mean you become totally devoid of feelings.

Your opinion grinds my gears!

Which marketing executive saw Eric Dier and thought "yes, there's a charismatic, marketable footballer"

Makes you wonder how many said no before they settled on Dier.

You summised something and then commented on it!

with the way you've written your post, it implies that footballers shouldn't need an 'arm over their shoulder' just because they earn loads of money.

I'd like to know why you think this :)

I reckon Kelechi needs an arm over his shoulder to return to scoring ways.

Maybe this one would help part the defences for him.

The fact that nearly energy movie has to have some form of choreographed dance, usually to an eighties song, that involves most of the cast.

Why? It's shit, derivative, boring and entirely puts me off the film.
