Not exactly 80s but synth based pop. Youtube band called Gunship.

 

Pretty fecking awesome and they do amazing videos.

I don't think any of them existed for more than about 2-3 years (mid/late-80s) so blink and you'd easily have missed them.

I never saw Motorcycle Boy but saw the other 2 several times. Both had decent live followings & indie sales, but imploded before they could make it big.

A shame as they did some good stuff. I actually prefer them to similar bands from that era who did have hits: e.g. Primitives, Transvision Vamp (good stuff, but a bit less bite and originality for me).

Knew Talk Talk from the early Synth New Romantic leanings. To think of their later works and what impact it's left on the world is scarcely believable.

I really appreciate what they gave to the music world. The final album's too jazzy for my taste, Spirit of Eden is where they hit their musical and creative peak. All that excessive dubbing and synching with no computer help! Magnificent, or as Alan McGee put it: "It's the sound of an artist being given the keys to the kingdom and returning with art."
