Player Profile

An England international and a mainstay with Arsenal for more than a decade, Keown came to Leicester in his twilight years, signed on a free transfer by Micky Adams to add some experience to City's defence as they looked to bounce back to the top flight following relegation the previous term.

He initially did what was expected of him but Leicester failed in their quest for promotion. Keown became the club’s oldest-ever debutant at just over 38 years of age but a big fall-out with Adams cost him his place in the team. The incoming Dave Bassett brought Keown back into the fray before Craig Levein moved him on to Reading, where he finished his career.

Keown started his career at Highbury but it was only in his second spell where he really enjoyed big success via spells with Brighton, on loan, Aston Villa and Everton. He returned to North London in 1993 and went on to win three Premiership winners’ medals, three FA Cup medals and 43 full England caps amongst other accolades.

He called time on his Gunners career in 2004 as a substitute in Arsenal’s final match of their unbeaten season, ironically against a relegated Leicester side who he would join-up with the following season.
