Wright's move away from Blackpool, his first club, to join the Foxes in August 1955 was an understandable one - he was second choice to Stanley Mathews at Bloomfield Road.

Eager for first team football, he took a chance at City and made his debut in a home game against Barnsley. But chances at Filbert Street, too, were hard to come by as the Foxes had somewhat of an embarrassment of riches in the winger department. So much so that he was more-often-than not drafted in to play as a striker for the reserves. It worked - with 28 goals coming from 31 outings.

It allowed him to break into City's championship success of 1956-57 and he shone, scoring ten goals from 17 useful appearances. It should have been enough to warrant him being a more regular contributor the following season , but it didn't and he soon moved on to Newcastle United.

Moves to Plymouth Argyle and Millwall followed before Wright called time on his career.
