The outside-left, born in Stourbridge, joined Fosse in the final year of football during the first world war, making his debut at Nottingham Forest in wartime football and then starting the following regular-league season.

He quickly found himself down the pecking order in that first season of post-war football, however, and he moved on to play for Nottingham Forest the following season, helping them to the Division Two championship in 1922.

A move to Accrington Stanley following him helping Forest to promotion but an injury brought his career to a somewhat premature end.
